HTML BOX SCORE                    GAME HIGHLIGHTS

BLOOMSBURG—Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, NJ/Mount Olive) scored two goals to lead the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team to a season-opening 5-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday night at Steph Pettit Stadium.

The Huskies, coming off a 13-win season in which it qualified for the NCAA playoffs, wasted little time in getting on the board scoring in the second minute. On a throw-in, Mike Bamford (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) got the ball to Cerda who headed the ball to the corner of the net putting Bloomsburg on top 1-0.

Bloomsburg scored its second goal when Austin Transue (Langhorne/Neshaminy) scored from the right wing in the 31st minute and then made it 3-0 just over seven minutes later when Stephen Pieri (Chalfont/Central Bucks South) tapped in a pass from Brian Kilcoyne (Bensalem/Bensalem).

The Spartans cut the lead to 3-1 with a goal in the 58th minute of action, but the Huskies thwarted the comeback when Cerda found the back of the net for the second time after taking a pass from Brett Milden (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional). Cerda took two touches and drilled home the score.

The Huskies closed out the scoring in the 86th minute when Alex Tennant (Yardley/Pennsburg) scored off an assist from Nick DiBiase (East Hanover, NJ/DePaul Catholic).

Bloomsburg goalie Taylor LeSage (Collegeville/Methacton) earned the win in his first collegiate start stopping four shots on the evening.

The Huskies, 1-0, will host New York Institute of Technology at 1 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium.
