Women's Soccer Team Beats Millersville on Saturday

HTML BOX SCORE

MILLERSVILLE—The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team gave first-year head coach Matt Haney his first career win doing it in dramatic fashion as they rallied for a 3-2, two overtime win at Millersville Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies scored first when Ashley Sanchez (Lyndhurst/DePaul Catholic) took a crossing pass from Jenna Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) on a feed from Megan Carroll (Middletown/Middletown Area) and beat the goalie with a shot to the right corner.

It stayed 1-0 until the 69th minute when Halie Parker scored for the home team to knot the score at 1-1. Four minutes later the Marauders took the lead with a goal to make it 2-1.

Bloomsburg though kept the pressure on the Marauders and with just 34 seconds left to play, Sanchez tied the score with an unassisted goal forcing OT.

Both teams had scoring chances in the first overtime with Bloomsburg getting four shots to three for Millersville, but neither could reach the back of the net. Bloomsburg goalie Devin Haviland made two big saves early in the overtime session to keep it tied.

In the second overtime Haviland again came up big with a save in the 106th minute. Bloomsburg was then awarded a corner kick in the 108th minute. Toula DeLeon (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) took the first shot that was blocked. Jenna Fisher (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) then came in and scored off the rebound to give the Huskies the win.

Devin Haviland got the victory making seven saves on the day.

The Huskies, 1-1, 1-1 PSAC, play at Gannon on Friday, Sept. 11.
