Women's Soccer Shuts Out IUP, 2-0, Saturday; Moves Into Final Playoff Spot

HTML BOX SCORE

INDIANA, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team scored two early first half goals and held on for a 2-0 shutout win at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon. The win propelled the Huskies into the eighth spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) standings with one game remaining in the regular season. Bloomsburg, winners of three straight, improved to 8-6-2 overall and 7-6-2 in league play while IUP dropped to 8-8-0 overall and 7-7-0 in the standings.

The Huskies find themselves one point behind Shippensburg for seventh place and two points ahead of the Crimson Hawks, who fell to ninth place with Saturday's loss against Bloomsburg. The Huskies have one match remaining - a trip to Clarion on Saturday, October 29. Shippensburg and IUP each have two matches remaining in the regular season - the Raiders travel to Lock Haven on Tuesday, October 25, while the Crimson Hawks will head to Edinboro that same evening. The two teams will then meet on Saturday at IUP.

Redshirt senior Maureen Leis (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township) got the Huskies on the scoreboard with her third goal of the season when she beat IUP goalkeeper Jessica Printz from just inside the box. The goal, which came ten minutes into the match, was assisted by senior Allie Camp (Beavertown, Pa./Midd-West) and freshman Megan Callan (Eldersburg, Md./Century). It proved to be Leis' second game-winner of the season.

Just over seven minutes later, sophomore Jessica Supp (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) buried her team-leading fifth goal of the year off of a centering feed from sophomore Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area) to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead. Supp now has a goal in three straight matches and has four goals over the last six contests. Meanwhile, Barber picked up her sixth assist of the season which moved her into a tie for second place in the league in that department.

Sophomore goalkeeper Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made the lead stand as she recorded four saves for her PSAC-leading eighth shutout of the season. Three of her four saves came in the second half that saw the Crimson Hawks outshoot the Huskies, 8-2. For the match, IUP held a 14-7 advantage in shots.

Printz stopped one shot in the loss for the Crimson Hawks.

Haviland, who improved to 8-6-2 on the season, has posted three consecutive shutouts and has not allowed a goal in a span of 324:26. The last goal she allowed came on October 11 when Kutztown scored in the 36th minute during the Huskies' 1-0 loss to the Golden Bears at Steph Pettit Stadium.

The Huskies will head to Clarion University (2-13-2, 2-12-1 PSAC) next Saturday, October 29, to conclude the regular season. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
