BLOOMSBURG—Despite a career-high 21 points from
Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team fell to IUP by a score of 68-58 on Sunday afternoon at the Nelson Field House.

The Huskies (0-2, 0-2 PSAC East) held an early five-point lead in the game, 7-2, through the first two-and-a-half minutes with Mack hitting a 3-pointer to give Bloomsburg the edge. IUP (2-2, 2-0 PSAC West) came back and tied the game at 9-9, one of three ties in the first period, before the Huskies closed out the period with back-to-back jumpers by Mack giving the home team a 19-16 lead going to the second period.

Bloomsburg extended its lead to 25-16 early in the second period on two buckets from
Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) sandwiched around a
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) basket. But, using a 7-0 run, IUP cut the deficit to two, 27-25, with 3:52 to play before the break.

With the Huskies leading by four points to start the third, Mack hit consecutive 3-pointers to give Bloomsburg its largest lead of the game, 36-26, with 8:39 to play in the period. The Crimson Hawks came storming back over the three minutes erasing the deficit with a 10-0 run. After a pair of free throws from Klunk briefly put the Huskies back on top, IUP regained the lead for good at 41-40 on a jumper by Carolyn Appleby with 3:11 left in the third.

Later, IUP pushed its lead to seven early in the fourth period on a jumper by Alexiss Griggs before baskets by
Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) got the Huskies to back with three, 50-47, with 8:01 to play. IUP then used a 12-5 run over the next five minutes to open a ten-point lead at 62-52. Bloomsburg briefly got the margin back under double digits on two free throws by Mack, before the Crimson Hawks closed out the game and took home a ten-point win.

For IUP, Appleby scored a game-high 22 points, while three players, Megan Smith, Lauren Wolosik and Maura D'Anna each chipped in with 10 points.

Mack's 21 points was a new career high surpassing her old mark of 20 set last year against Slippery Rock on Jan. 3, 2016. Klunk joined her in double figures with 12 points, while Corridonni added eight points and nine rebounds.

Bloomsburg will host Chestnut Hill on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
