BLOOMSBURG—Ranked No. 2 in the country in Division II, the California (Pa.) Vulcans lived up to their high standing by posting an 80-45 win over Bloomsburg University in women's basketball action Sunday afternoon. The game was the final one before the NCAA-mandated holiday break for Division II teams.

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively with California holding just a 4-2 lead through the first two-and-a-half minutes of play and led 8-4 with 4:19 to go in the period. The Vulcans then turned up the intensity on defense and used an 18-0 run to close out the period and lead 26-4. Bloomsburg struggled offensively with its four points coming on free throws while going 0-11 from the floor. Meanwhile, Cal was shooting over 50 percent from the field in the opening 10 minutes going 11-21 from the floor.

The Huskies finally hit their first field goal with 7:31 to go in the second period when
Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) scored off am inbounds pass from
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) making it 28-7. Cal continued to extend its lead in the game pushing its advantage to 31 on several occasions in the period and led 44-15 at the break.

In the third period, the Vulcans took their biggest lead of the game at 35 points, 53-18, with 7:33 to go. But the Huskies continued to battle and heated up offensively. Bloomsburg put together a 9-0 run to narrow the gap to 53-27.
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) hit a jumper; Montana had a three-point play,
Taylor Sneidman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) drained a 3-pointer, and
Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer) connected on one of two shots from the free throw line. For the period the Huskies were 7-11 from the floor (63.6 %) and were even with Cal in points with 20 each.

Bloomsburg, though, could not match the depth and experience of the Vulcans who outscored the Huskies 16-10 in the fourth period and went on to win 80-45.

Cal, now 11-0, got 16 points from Seairra Barrett and 14 each from Shatara Parsons and Miki Glenn. Bloomsburg, 1-8, got a team-high 13 points from
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic), while Sneidman came off the bench to net seven.

Bloomsburg is idle until Dec. 30 when it visits West Chester starting at 5:30 p.m.
