Bloomsburg, meanwhile, made 25 of its 53 attempts from the field (47.2%). Kelsey Watson led Kutztown with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Jenna Altomare had 13 points in the loss.
THE LOCK HAVEN SERIES ...Bloomsburg leads the all-time series against Lock Haven, 27-17. The series was tied at 17-17 until Bloomsburg started a ten-game winning streak against the Bald Eagles on December 5, 2008. During the Huskies' ten-game winning streak, only five of the victories were decided by ten or more points. Lock Haven has not won against Bloomsburg since December 19, 2007 - head coach
Bill Cleary is a perfect 10-0 against the Bald Eagles.
LAST MEETING AGAINST LOCK HAVEN ...Bloomsburg bounced back from its worst loss in five years to post a 66-55 victory over Lock Haven at the Nelson Field House on January 16. The Huskies jumped out to a 15-6 lead after the opening quarter and never trailed after taking an 8-6 lead with 4:09 left in the first period. Five Bloomsburg players finished in double figures, led by junior
Kristie Costantino (Norristown/Archbishop John Carroll)'s career-high 16 points.
Morgan Klunk (Felton/York Catholic) (15),
Mia Hopkins (Pittston/Pittston Area) (12),
Alex Ross (Lancaster/Manheim Township) (11), and
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) (10) also reached double digits. Hopkins added 12 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season while Ross chipped in with 10 boards for her second double-double of the year. Ross also had a career-high three blocks and tied a career-high with five assists. Bloomsburg was outrebounded by a 53-39 margin but limited the Bald Eagles to just 26.3% shooting from the floor.

SCOUTING LOCK HAVEN ...Lock Haven has won three of its last four games to put itself back in position for a PSAC Tournament berth for the second consecutive season. The Bald Eagles enter with a 10-13 overall record and a 7-12 mark in the PSAC Eastern Division, good for sixth in the conference. Lock Haven last played on Wednesday, February 10 and posted a 71-56 victory over visiting Cheyney at Thomas Fieldhouse. The Bald Eagles average 62.5 points per game (16th in the PSAC) on offense and allow 62.8 points per game (5th in the PSAC) on defense. They have been outscored by a total of seven points through 23 games. J.J. Hilliard and Rachael McDaniel are tied for the team lead in scoring as they both average 10.7 points per game. Mackenzie Livingston is right behind at 10.2 points per contest. Lysa Mealing is a juggernaut on the boards, averaging a PSAC-leading 13.1 rebounds per game while chipping in 9.3 points per contest. In a win over Kutztown on February 3, Mealing scored 20 points and grabbed 25 rebounds - both season-highs. The Bald Eagles are the best rebounding team in the conference as they average 44.0 rebounds per game and outrebound their opponents by an average of 8.7 boards per contest. Freshman Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh is the reigining PSAC East Freshman of the Week after averaging 10.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in two games last week. She posted her first career double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) in the win over Cheyney on Wednesday.
DOUBLE DIGITS AGAIN ...The victory over Lock Haven on January 16 was Bloomsburg's tenth win of the season - the eighth straight season that the Huskies have won at least ten games. The last time Bloomsburg did not win ten games was in 2007-08 when it went 8-19 under head coach Tammy Millsaps. Current head coach
Bill Cleary took over in 2008-09 and has won at least ten games every season. The Huskies need one victory to clinch a winning season for the seventh consecutive season.
CAREER NIGHT FOR KLUNK ...Junior
Morgan Klunk (Felton/York Catholic) had, arguably, the best game of her collegiate career in helping the Huskies post a 61-60 victory over Kutztown on Wednesday. She tied a career-high with 21 points and established a new career-high with 13 rebounds in the victory. She also added five assists and turned the ball over just once while playing all 40 minutes. Klunk had 11 points in the first quarter as Bloomsburg built a seven-point lead after the opening ten minutes. She is third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.0 points per game. She leads the team in assists (3.6) and is fourth in rebounding (4.9).
FOURTH QUARTER ISSUES ...Bloomsburg has had issues, especially recently, in putting teams away when leading after three quarters. The Huskies have blown three fourth quarter leads this season (9-3) and nearly blew a fourth when Kutztown outscored the Huskies, 34-13, in the final period on January 9. Bloomsburg won the game, 76-70, thanks to a 63-36 lead after three quarters. Most recently, Mansfield came back from 13 points down at the start of the fourth to stun the Huskies on Saturday, February 6, 65-61. This season, the Huskies have been outscored by 48 points in the fourth quarter (409-361) but have outscored their opponents by 81 points in the other three quarters combined. The Huskies did put the issues to rest on Wednesday when they scored the final seven points of the game - in the final two minutes -Â to win by one.
SADOWSKI NAMED PSAC EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK ...Despite two Bloomsburg losses, redshirt senior
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) was named the PSAC East Player of the Week on Monday, February 8, after averaging 18.0 points and 9.5 rebounds for the week. During Wednesday's 78-65 home loss to West Chester, Sadowski recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds while adding two assists and two steals. She followed up that performance with her fourth 20-point outing of the season in Saturday's 66-61 loss at Mansfield, leading the Huskies with 20 points and eight rebounds.
NCAA WATCH ...Sadowski's 63.1% shooting percentage is not only tops in the conference, but it ranks third in the country entering action this week. Sadowski has made 129 of her 205 field goal attempts this season and trails only West Liberty's Kierra Simpson (67.0%; 132-of-197) and Lewis' Jessica Kelliher (64.9%; 174-of-268). Sadowski is one of only seven players in the country to be shooting at least 60% from the field this season.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE ...The loss against West Chester on February 3, marked the third time this season that multiple players recorded a double-double. Sadowski (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Ross (12 points, 10 rebounds) turned the trick against the Golden Rams. Hopkins (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Ross (11 points, 10 rebounds) achieved the feat against Lock Haven on January 16 while three Huskies posted double-doubles - Hopkins, Klunk, and Sadowski - against Mercyhurst on December 4. Meanwhile, the Huskies have also had three games where five players reached double figures in scoring. The latest occurrence came on January 16 when the Huskies defeated Lock Haven.
Kristie Costantino (Norristown/Archbishop John Carroll) led the way with 16 while
Morgan Klunk (Felton/York Catholic) (15),
Mia Hopkins (Pittston/Pittston Area) (12),
Alex Ross (Lancaster/Manheim Township) (11), and
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) (10) also hit the mark. The Huskies also accomplished the feat against Gannon on December 5 and at Goldey-Beacom on November 17.
LEAVING A MARK ON THE PROGRAM ...Redshirt senior
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) became the 21st player (5th under head coach
Bill Cleary) in program history to record 1,000 career points when she hit a bucket with 27 seconds left in the third quarter at Cheyney on January 20. She finished the game with 27 points, giving her 1,002 for her career. She had an ever-better performance against Shippensburg, posting a school-record 43 points on 18-of-23 from the field and 7-of-7 from the foul line. With her 13 points against Kutztown on Wednesday, Sadowski now has 1,097 points and needs 12 points to surpass Holly Curnow (1995-99) for 19th place. Meanwhile, with her eight rebounds on Wednesday, January 27, against Shippensburg, she became the 14th player in school history to have 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. In the process, Sadowski also became one of only two players in school history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 150 blocks. Colleen Kegerreis (2005-09) finished her career with 1,313 points, 859 rebounds, and 194 blocks.
MORE ON THE RECORD ...Sadowski's 43 points broke the previous school record of 39 which was set by Bloomsburg Hall-of-Famer, Theresa Lorenzi, who accomplished the feat on February 13, 1988 in a 115-102 Husky victory at Cheyney. The 43 points tied for the 11th highest single game total in PSAC history and were just five shy of tying the PSAC record of 48 points set by Millersville's Terri Gunder during the 1970-71 season. The 18 field goals were also a program record, eclipsing the previous record of 17 set by Lorenzi on two different occasions (12/10/86 and 1/31/87).
COMING OUT PARTY ...After scoring 25 total points (1.1 per game) and pulling down 33 total rebounds (1.4) over her first two seasons combined, junior
Alex Ross (Lancaster/Manheim Township) is taking advantage of a significant increase in playing time this season. She is fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 10.2 points per game, third in rebounding at 5.2 boards per contest, fourth in assists per game (2.5), and third in blocks per game (0.7). She has three double-doubles this season with her latest coming against West Chester on February 3 (12 points, 10 rebounds). Her second came against Lock Haven on January 16 (11 points, 10 rebounds) while her first double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) in the loss to Gannon on December 5. In the win over Kutztown on January 9, Ross poured in a career-high 22 points, marking the first time in her collegiate career that she had eclipsed 20 points in a game. Her previous high was 18 against the University of the Sciences on November 29.
SHARP SHOOTERS ...Bloomsburg entered Wednesday's contest ranked first in the PSAC in shooting percentage (44.5%) and second in the league in free throw percentage (73.5%). The Huskies have two of the top three shooters from the field in the conference -
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) (1st - 63.1%) and
Mia Hopkins (Pittston/Pittston Area) (3rd - 51.9%) while Hopkins also ranks tied for eighth in the league in free throw shooting (80.0%). The Huskies have shot better than 50% from the field seven times this season and are 5-2 in those games.
GANTZ KEEP HER DOWN ...Freshman
Julia Gantz (Havertown/Archbishop John Carroll) had a strong game in the loss at Mansfield on February 6, posting 15 points on 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-6 from long range. It was her third double-digit scoring effort of the season, but her first since scoring a career-high 18 points at West Chester on December 16. In the 11 games in between, Gantz had averaged only 4.5 points on 19-of-63 shooting (.302). She is second on the team in points by a rookie, averaging 5.5 points per game this season (
Alyssa Mack (Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic), 6.7).
DOESN'T HAPPEN OFTEN ...Bloomsburg's 72-41 loss at Millersville on Wednesday, January 13, was the program's worst loss since dropping an 80-44 decision at Shippensburg on January 27, 2010. The 41 points scored by the Huskies were the fewest scored by a Bloomsburg team since suffering a 54-38 loss at home against Clarion on January 11, 2009.
REBOUNDING WOES ...Bloomsburg has now been outrebounded by an average of 4.4 boards per game - 16th out of 18 teams in the PSAC. The Huskies average 36.3 rebounds per game - also 16th in the conference. Over the last 17 games, the Huskies have been outrebounded on 13 occasions and by a total of 118 boards - an average of 6.9 rebounds per contest. In six of the 13 games, Bloomsburg has been outrebounded by at least ten. Meanwhile, over the first five games of the season, Bloomsburg was not outrebounded and averaged 4.0 more rebounds per game than its opponent.
SECOND CHANCES ...The Huskies have allowed 363 offensive rebounds (16.5 per game) to their opponents during the season, which have led to 276 points (12.5 per game) second-chance points. In comparison, the Huskies have only 228 offensive boards (10.4) which have led to 209 second-chance points (9.5 ppg). Bloomsburg has allowed double-digit offensive rebounds in 21 of the 22 games and has allowed 20 or more offensive boards six times this season.
DID YOU KNOW ...Bloomsburg's loss at Edinboro on Wednesday, January 6, was the first loss by a Huskies' team in the month of January since a 65-59 loss to West Chester on January 26, 2013. Since that loss, Bloomsburg had rattled off 21 straight victories in January. The Huskies lost three times in January - the most since losing four times during the 2010-11 season. Meanwhile, the win over Kutztown snapped a three-game losing streak, the program's longest such skid since losing three in a row from February 17 to February 24, 2010.
FIRST TIME IN A WHILE ...Junior
Morgan Klunk (Felton/York Catholic) registered a career-high 10 assists in the victory over Shippensburg on January 27. It marked the first time a Bloomsburg player had 10 or more assists in a game since Dana Wieller had 11 helpers in an 86-65 win over Philadelphia on December 30, 2012. Prior to that, junior
Mia Hopkins (Pittston/Pittston Area) scored 13 points and pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds in the win over the University of the Sciences on November 29. The 16 rebounds were the first time that a Bloomsburg player had at least 15 boards in a game since Colleen Kegerreis pulled down 15 in a 71-70 loss against Cheyney on Janaury 14, 2009. Hopkins recorded another 16-rebound effort against Mercyhurst on December 4.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE ...Bloomsburg will return to the friendly confines of the Nelson Field House on Wednesday, February 17, when it entertains Millersville at 5:30 p.m. The Huskies will be looking to avenge a 72-41 loss at Millersville back on January 13.
