HTML BOX SCORELOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team saw its fourth-quarter woes continue on Saturday afternoon as the Huskies dropped a 66-62 overtime decision at Lock Haven University. Bloomsburg, which lost for the fourth time in the last five games, dropped to 13-10 overall and 10-9 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division. The Bald Eagles improved to 11-13 overall and 8-12 in league play.
Bloomsburg led by eight, 44-36, entering the fourth quarter and extended the lead to nine, 51-42, with 5:46 left in regulation. But, the Bald Eagles closed out the fourth quarter with a 10-1 run to send the game to overtime. Lock Haven then went on to outscore Bloomsburg, 14-10, in the overtime period to earn the four-point victory.
The loss snapped a ten-game winning streak by the Huskies against Lock Haven in the all-time series and was Bloomsburg's fourth loss of the season when leading after three quarters (9-4). Three of those losses, however, have come during the Huskies' 1-4 stretch.
Redshirt senior
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) paced the Huskies with a game-high 20 points, 17 of which came in the second half and overtime. Junior
Morgan Klunk (Felton/York Catholic) had 15 points with 10 of those coming in the first half.
Bloomsburg got off to a fine start, jumping out to an 18-12 lead after the opening ten minutes. Klunk scored six of the Huskies' points in the first quarter as Bloomsburg led by as many as eight before settling for a six-point advantage.
Both teams struggled to get anything going offensively in the second quarter as Lock Haven outscored the Huskies, 8-6, in the ten-minute period. Bloomsburg had just one field goal in the second quarter, a basket by Sadowski with 8:31 left. The other four points came on free throws by Klunk. Despite the cold spell, Bloomsburg led by four at the break, 24-20.
After totaling only 24 points in the first half, Bloomsburg exploded for 20 points in the third quarter and things opened up for both teams with the Huskies outscoring the Bald Eagles, 20-16, in the third stanza.
Sadowski had eight points in the third after being limited to just three points in the opening half. And, after freshman
Julia Gantz (Havertown/Archbishop John Carroll) knocked down a triple with ten seconds left in the period, Bloomsburg had an eight-point lead heading to the fourth.
Sadowski started the fourth quarter with a basket to give the Huskies a 46-36 advantage - their biggest lead since a 24-14 advantage with 4:59 left in the second quarter. The Bald Eagles answered with six straight points to cut the lead to four but Sadowski responded with five consecutive points of her own to extend the lead to nine, 51-42, with 5:46 left. The redshirt senior finished the run with a three-point play – it would prove to be Bloomsburg's last basket of the period.
Lock Haven went on a 10-1 spurt to force overtime with Bloomsburg's only point during the stretch coming on a Klunk free throw with 2:26 left. Lock Haven's J.J. Hilliard completed the comeback with a jumper with 38 seconds left.
The teams went back-and-forth in overtime with Lock Haven taking a 62-60 lead with 25 seconds left after a 1-of-2 trip to the line from Mackenzie Livingston. Sadowski answered with a jumper to tie the game at 62-62 with ten seconds left, but Sydney Morse gave Lock Haven a two-point lead with 2.4 seconds left with a layup. After a Bloomsburg timeout, the Huskies' in-bound pass was stolen by Livingston who then iced the game with a pair of foul shots.
Junior
Alex Ross (Lancaster/Manheim Township) had a nice all-around game for the Huskies, contributing nine points, a team-high seven rebounds, and a team-high six assists with just one turnover in all 45 minutes. Bloomsburg turned the ball over just 13 times but was outrebounded, 47-27. Lock Haven had 21 offensive rebounds – the seventh time this season that a Bloomsburg opponent has had at least 20 offensive boards.
Livingston paced Lock Haven with 19 points while Hilliard had 16. Lysa Mealing, the PSAC's leading rebounder, had nine points and 17 rebounds in the win.
Bloomsburg will return home on Wednesday, February 17, when it hosts Millersville at the Nelson Field House. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
