KING BOX SCOREHARTSVILLE, SC—The Bloomsburg University softball team swept two games on Sunday on the final day of the Coker College Spring Tournament beating Lees-McRae 6-5 in game one and King (TN) University, 4-0, in game two.

In the opener the Huskies
Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run) went 2-2 with a homer and three RBI to lead Bloomsburg to the win. The Huskies took the lead in the bottom of the first when
Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) doubled to lead off and moved to third on a bunt by
Valerie Carcasses (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat). After Parker walked to put runners at the corners,
Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) hit a sacrifice fly scoring Mayhew with the game's first run.

The Huskies broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth scoring five times. After a strikeout to lead off the inning,
Marissa Shelhamer (Nescopeck, Pa./Central Columbia) hit a solo homer to left center making it 2-0.
Erica Keen (Gordonville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) the followed with a single and
Emily Getz (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) walked to put runners at first and second. Mayhew then delivered an RBI single to right scoring Keen. After a pop out for the second out of the inning, Parker slammed a three-run homer to right center making it a 6-0 game.

Lees-McRae got one run back in the top of the sixth on a solo homer, then made things interesting by scoring four times in the seventh. Three runs came around on a three-run homer with the fourth scoring on a solo shot.
Sarah Bortner (Glenville, Pa./South Western), though, in relief of
Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia), got a strikeout to end the game.

In game two of the day Bloomsburg pitcher
Sarah Bortner (Glenville, Pa./South Western) and King pitcher Haley Smothers were locked in a pitchers duel. Bortner allowed just three hits, while Smothers to just six hits through the first seven innings.

The Huskies threatened in the top of the sixth getting
Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) and
Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run) on with back-to-back hits leading off the inning. After a bunt moved the runners to second and third, Smothers got a strikeout and pop up to end the threat.

In the seventh the Huskies also had two on with one out, but again Smothers got two fly outs to keep the game scoreless.

Bloomsburg finally broke through in the top of the eighth.  With Winkelman starting at second on the tie-breaking rule, she moved to third on a ground out. Tomaschik then singled with Winkelman holding at third. Wheeland then reached on a fielder's choice with Winkelman scoring.
Erica Keen (Gordonville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) followed with a three-run homer giving the Huskies some breathing room.

In the bottom of the eighth Bortner had the runner placed at second move to third with no outs, but she retired the next three batters to earn the shutout.

Parker and Winkelman had two hits each, while Bortner struck out seven and did not allow a walk.

Bloomsburg is now 3-1 on the year.
