SHEPHERD BOXSALEM, VA—
Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) went a combined 5-8 and
Sarah Bortner (Glenville, Pa./South Western) picked up the win in both games to lead the Bloomsburg University softball team to a sweep of its games on Saturday at the regional crossover tournament in Salem, Va. The Huskies beat Chowan, 12-4, in five innings, then got by Shepherd University, 5-3.

In game one the Huskies scored at least two runs in every inning and went on to a five-inning victory over the Hawks. Bloomsburg got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Winkelman singled with one out and came around to score on
Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run)'s two-run homer.

In the second inning the Huskies
Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and Winkelman each had RBI singles to make it 4-0. Bloomsburg made it 6-0 in the third when
Natalie Quinlan (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) singled and came in on
Erica Keen (Gordonville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan)'s two-run homer.

Chowan made a game of it in the fourth inning scoring three times on just one hit and taking advantage of two errors by the Huskies.

Bloomsburg though came back and scored four times in the fourth inning to make it 10-3, then closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth when Winkelman hit a solo homer and the game winning run scored on a bases loaded error.

Winkelman finished game one 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. In the circle Bortner went the distance allowing five hits, walking one and striking out five.

In game two against Shepherd the Huskies again jumped out to an early lead.
Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) reached on an error leading off, then went to second on a passed ball, moved to third on Winkelman's single and scored on Parker's single. Winkelman came around Quinlan's RBI hit.

After Shepherd got one run back in the bottom of the first, Bloomsburg scored three times in the top of the second.
Holly Peacock (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) walked and later scored on an error to make it 3-1. Then
Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) delivered a two-run single making it 5-1.

In the bottom of the second the Rams got two runs off Tomaschik to make it 5-3 before the Huskies went in relief to Bortner. The junior settled things down and pitched five innings of no-hit ball allowing just one walk and striking out six to earn her sixth win of the season.

Bloomsburg goes to 12-2 with the sweep and will wrap up its spring trip with a game against West Virginia Wesleyan at 11 am on Sunday.
