HTML BOX SCORESALEM, VA—The Bloomsburg University softball team closed out its spring break schedule with a tough, 5-4 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday in Salem, Va.

The Huskies led 4-3 going to the bottom of the sixth inning. The Bobcats (17-3) Olivia Gore led off with a walk and moved to second on sacrifice bunt. Morgan Bruce then slammed a two-run homer off
Sarah Bortner (Glenville, Pa./South Western) who was in relief of starter
Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run), to put Wesleyan on top 5-4.

In the top of the seventh the Huskies did get the go-ahead run to plate, but the Bobcats retired the final two batters to end the game.

West Virginia Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first getting a two-run homer from Brooklyn Waddell. The Huskies took the lead in the top of the third inning.
Erica Keen (Gordonville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan),
Valerie Carcasses (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) and
Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) all singled to load the bases with two outs.
Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run) then delivered a grand slam homer putting the Huskies on top 4-2.

The Bobcats made it a 4-3 game scoring a run in the fifth inning. Bloomsburg threatened in the top of the sixth, but could not score.
Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) singled to lead off. Pinch runner
Abbey Remley (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) then moved to second on a bunt by
Natalie Quinlan (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby).
Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) then singled putting runners at first and third with one out. A ground out put runners at second and third. But a strikeout ended the threat.

Carcasses went 3-3 in the game for the Huskies, while Keen was 2-3. Bortner took the loss and is now 6-2 on the year.

Bloomsburg goes to 12-3 on the year and will host its home opener on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. against Nyack College.
