GAME ONE BOX SCORE   |     GAME TWO BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG—Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) went a combined 5-8, while Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run) went a combined 4-8 with both players getting a win in the circle as the Bloomsburg University softball team swept its home opener versus Nyack College on Thursday winning 9-5 in the opener and 9-4 in the nightcap. The start of the doubleheader was delayed an hour by a passing shower.

In game one the Huskies jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. With one out Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) walked and Parker reached on an error. After Winkelman stole third, Parker moved up on a ground out with both runners scoring on Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport)'s single. Natalie Quinlan (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) and Erica Keen (Gordonville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) then drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with Bridget Casey (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) doubled clearing the bases making it 5-0.

The Huskies made it 7-0 in the second when Winkelman singled and scored on Parker's homer. Nyack trimmed the lead to 5-2 in the top of the third getting a two-out double that plated a pair of runners.

Bloomsburg threatened in the bottom of the fourth loading the bases with two outs, but Nyack worked out of the jam getting a pop up to end the inning. In the fifth the Warriors got a three-run homer that made it 7-5.

Bloomsburg got two insurance runs in the sixth. Tomaschik led off the inning with a homer and later, Quinlan, who had doubled, scored on a wild pitch.

Sarah Bortner (Glenville, Pa./South Western), in relief of Parker, closed the door on Nyack in the seventh retiring the side in order to get the save. Parker got the win with five innings of work striking out seven and walking three, while Bortner threw two scoreless innings.

In the nightcap the Huskies banged out 17 hits in a 9-4 victory. Bloomsburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning. Parker doubled home Winkelman who led off with a single and went to second on an error. Tomaschik then singled home Parker with the second run.

Nyack came back and took the lead scoring three times in the third. The Huskies, though, came back and regained the lead scoring four times in the fourth. With one out, Keen hit a solo shot to tie the game. Emily Getz (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) then walked and Holly Peacock (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) singled. Winkelman then singled home Getz to make it 5-4. Valerie Carcasses (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) followed with a double scoring Peacock for a 6-4 lead.

Nyack got a run back in the fifth before the Huskies added a solo run in the fifth on Peacock's RBI single. Bloomsburg put the game away with two runs in the sixth. Carcasses, who reached on an error, scored on a bases loaded wild pitch. Keen later delivered a sacrifice fly scoring Tomaschik making it 9-4.

In the seventh Nyack put one runner on, but Bortner got a strike out swinging to end the game.

Tomaschik went 5.2 innings and walked two and fanned five, while Bortner earned her second save of the day.

Bloomsburg is now 14-3, while Nyack falls to 4-15. The Huskies host Millersville on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jan Hutchinson Field.
