BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team fell in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener to East Stroudsburg, 9-7, on Tuesday. The loss dropped the Huskies to 2-2 (0-1 PSAC) while the Warriors moved to 5-1 (1-1 PSAC).
Kate Shea (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) scored the first of her three goals in the contest just 34 seconds into the game to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead.
East Stroudsburg responded by scoring the next three goals, one from Annastasia Porpora and two from Lauren Green to take a 3-1 lead with 18:52 to play in the first half.
Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West) scored her ninth goal of the season to cut the Warriors' lead in half, making it 3-2, and Nikki Fisher (Warminster, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy )'s score would tie the game with 4:20 to play before the intermission. Shea would tack on two more goals before halftime to give the Huskies a 5-3 lead heading into the break.
Bloomsburg would push its lead to 7-3 early in the second half on free position scores from Nikki Fisher (Warminster, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy ) and Brigid Kyne (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown).
East Stroudsburg then took the game over, scoring six unanswered goals in the final 16:31 to secure a victory. Kaitlynn Wiltraut tallied two scores in less than 45 seconds to cut the Huskies' lead in half, making it 7-5 with 15:17 to play in the contest.
After Jamie Zimmer scored for the Warriors to make it a one goal game, Chessie Rahmer tied up the score, 7-7, off of an assist from Lauren Nunes with 12:31 left in the contest.
The two teams traded turnovers and fouls for the next three and a half minutes before Lauren Green gave East Stroudsburg its' first lead since early in the first half off of an assist from Nunes with 8:54 remaining. Green would add an insurance goal with 5:23 to play, sealing the game for the Warriors.
Lindsay Coyle, Shea and Turner each had an assist, while Abby Burnett made nine saves in goal.
Up next for Bloomsburg will be a PSAC matchup at Edinboro University on Saturday. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
