EDINBORO- The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team saw six different players score in an 11-9 win over Edinboro on Saturday. The Huskies moved up to
3-2 (1-1 PSAC) on the year while Edinboro fell to 4-2 (0-2 PSAC).
Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) put Bloomsburg on the board with her first goal of the season just two and a half minutes into the game. Brigid Kyne (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) doubled the Huskies' lead just 34 seconds later and was quickly followed by Nikki Fisher (Warminster, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy )'s score to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead with 26:03 to play in the first half. Both goals came via assists from Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West). Kyne would tally her second goal of the contest to push Bloomsburg's lead to 4-0 with 22:32 remaining in the half.
Edinboro got on the board with a goal by Cydney Hrycko with 20:55 to play in the half.
Bloomsburg saw goals from Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West), Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) and Lindsey Coyle (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) in the next 12 minutes, but the Fighting Scots refused to go away, countering with two goals in a 45-second span that made it a 7-4 Huskies' lead with 6:17 to play in the half.
Turner added two more goals before Rebecca Martin scored for Edinboro to make it 9-5 in favor of Bloomsburg heading into halftime.
In the second half the Fighting Scots continued their strong play and scored the first goal of the half make it a 9-6 contest with 22:18 to play.
Lindsey Coyle (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West)'s second goal pushed the Huskies' lead back up to four goals, 10-6, with just under 19 minutes left in the game.
Edinboro refused to go away as they scored the next three goals to make it a 10-9 game with 7:50 remaining.
The two teams then hit a dry spell and were unable to find the back of the net until Kyne added a goal with 1:46 to play in the game to seal the Bloomsburg win.
The Huskies played with energy and intensity the entire game as evidenced by Julia Stauffer (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) taking a charge on defense, as well as Ashley Nelson (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) winning a 50/50 ground ball that kept the Huskies on the attack late in the game.
Abby Burnett was aggressive in net, making four saves and tallying seven ground balls on the day.
For the game, Bloomsburg outshot Edinboro, 29-20, and edged the Fighting Scots in draw controls, 11-10.
The Huskies will continue their three-game road trip at Millersville on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
