HTML BOX SCORESLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team got off to a slow start and could not rally as it dropped a 14-9 decision at Slippery Rock University on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) while The Rock improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.
After Slippery Rock jumped out to a 4-0 lead, freshman
Lindsey Coyle (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and junior
Brigid Kyne (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 4-2 with 8:18 left in the opening thirty minutes. However, The Rock closed out the scoring in the first half with two more goals to take a 6-2 lead at intermission.
Slippery Rock started the second half much like it started the first, scoring the first three goals to take a 9-2 advantage with 22:12 left in regulation. The Huskies answered with goals from freshman
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) and Kyne just 33 seconds apart to cut The Rock's lead to 9-4 with 20:39 remaining.
The five-goal differential would be as close as the Huskies would get the rest of the way as the teams exchanged goals over the next twenty minutes to finish off the contest with that same margin.
Kyne led the Huskies with three goals, giving her a team-leading 17 tallies on the season. Jaskuta and sophomore
Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) each chipped in with a pair of goals while Coyle and junior
Nikki Fisher (Warminster, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy ) had single markers. Leading scorer, sophomore
Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West), was limited to just one assist on the afternoon.
Junior
Abbey Burnett (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) got the start in goal and fell to 2-4 on the season after allowing eleven goals while posting eight saves in 43:02 of action. Sophomore
Brittney Hegarty (Rochester, N.Y./Rush Henrietta) allowed three goals and stopped three shots in 16:58 of work.
Slippery Rock held a 31-17 shot advantage, including a 17-7 margin in the opening thirty minutes of play. The Rock also had a substantial edge in draw controls, winning 17 of the 25 opportunities.
Jordan Wagner improved to 5-2 on the season for Slippery Rock after stopping six Bloomsburg shots. Erin Wilcox had four goals for The Rock while Kaytlin Callaghan had a goal and four assists to pace the hosts' offense.
