Women's Lacrosse Team Falls to West Chester

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg women's lacrosse team fell to No. 9 West Chester University, 19-4, at Steph Pettit Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies dropped to 3-5 overall, 1-4 PSAC while West Chester improved to 8-1, 3-1 PSAC.

The game started off with West Chester scoring in the first 16 seconds of the game followed by Bloomsburg junior Brigid Kyne (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) scoring an unassisted goal 20 seconds later to knot the game at 1-1. The Rams then scored back-to-back goals to make it, 3-1, with 21:33 to play in the half.

With 21:08 remaining in the first half, Huskies sophomore Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored off of an assist by freshman Lindsey Coyle (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) narrowing West Chester's lead to 3-2.  West Chester came back strong and extended the lead with five consecutive goals before Bloomsburg sophomore Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West) got the ball on a draw control and took the ball right down the field to score and make it 8-3. The Rams scored four of the final five goals of the first half to lead 12-4 with Kyne's goal on an assist by Turner the lone Bloomsburg score in that stretch.

In the second half the Huskies were unable to find the back of the net while West Chester added seven more goals to post a 19-4 win.

Bloomsburg goalkeeper's sophomore Brittney Hegarty (Rochester, N.Y./Rush Henrietta) and junior Abbey Burnett (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) each saw time in goal totaling five saves, Hegarty finished with two with Burnett getting three. The Rams outshot the Huskies on goal, 31-11, while also leading in ground balls, 23-19.

The Huskies will take on Indiana (Pa.) at home on Friday, April 1 at 4 p.m.
