HTML BOX SCOREWINGATE, N.C. - The Bloomsburg University baseball team was limited to three singles on Sunday afternoon and dropped a 10-0 decision at Wingate University to suffer its third consecutive loss. The Huskies fell to 6-5 overall while the Bulldogs improved to 13-7 on the season.
Bloomsburg was held in check all afternoon by Wingate starter, Brandon Donahue. The Bulldog righthander went the distance for the complete-game shutout, allowing only three hits and three walks while striking out seven to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The Huskies could muster only singles from redshirt sophomore
Cy Treaster (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) in the second, senior
Joey Casselberry (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) in the seventh, and sophomore
Tyler Benson (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) in the ninth.
Wingate got all the offense Donahue would need when it took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first against Bloomsburg starter, sophomore
Mike Warren (Garnerville, N.Y./St. Joseph Regional).
After getting only a single in the second, the Wingate offense would score at least one run in every inning the rest of the afternoon. The Bulldogs added two in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, one in the seventh, and two in the eighth to finish off the Huskies.
Warren, who entered the day with a 2-0 record and a 0.69 earned run average, had a rough afternoon in suffering his first loss of the season. He went seven innings and allowed eight runs, all earned, on 15 hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out three. Senior
Sean McCloskey (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) pitched the eighth and allowed two runs on one hit while walking two and striking out two.
Colby Barnette and Andrew Llewellyn each had three of Wingate's 16 hits on the afternoon.
The Huskies will attempt to get back into the win column on Monday, March 7, when they head to Petersburg, Virginia for a doubleheader against Virginia State University. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
