Softball Team Splits Pair on Wednesday

ST. ROSE BOX SCORE   |     MN-MAKATO BOX SCORE

CLERMONT, FL—The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games on Wednesday in Clermont, FL beating the College of St. Rose, 5-3, and losing to Minnesota State-Mankato, 10-0, in six innings.

In game one the Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. With one Bridget Casey (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) doubled and Erica Keen (Gordonville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) singled to put runners at first and third. Holly Peacock (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) then walked to load the bases. Valerie Carcasses (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) then singled home Casey and Keen for a 2-0 lead. Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) then singled with Peacock coming in to make it 3-0.

Meanwhile Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run) was keeping St. Rose off the scoreboard allowing just three hits through the first four innings.

The Huskies made it 5-0 in the fifth getting an RBI single from Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) with Casey scoring on a wild pitch. St. Rose came back and made it close scoring three times in the sixth on just one hit. The big blow in the inning was a three-run homer.

Parker, though, settled down and retired the final four hitters she faced to win the game, 5-3.

Carcasses went 1-3 with two RBI to lead the offense. Parker went the distance in the circle striking out five and allowing just one walk.

In game two the teams were scoreless through two innings when the Mavericks broke through with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Bloomsburg threatened in the bottom of the third getting two runners on with two outs, but Mankato worked out of trouble and kept its 2-0 lead.

The Mavericks broke the game open in the fifth and sixth inning scoring four runs in each frame. Bloomsburg meanwhile managed just two hits for the game and saw its seven game winning streak come to an end.

Bloomsburg, 8-2, plays in Salem, VA this weekend in a regional crossover tournament.
