BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team opened their season with a 1-0 win over Felician Bloomsburg at Steph Pettit Stadium on Thursday night.
The Huskies controlled the play during the first half getting numerous scoring changes. In the sixth minute of the game Bloomsburg freshman Seth Walker's header was blocked by Felician's goalkeeper, John Burns to keep the game scoreless.
Bloomsburg continued their game control and eight minutes later Walker, on a throw-in, got the ball to
Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) who then gave the ball to
Nick Geller (York, Pa./West York) whose shot attempt was blocked by Felician. Then with 15:52 left in the first half, Geller crossed the ball to Transue who headed the ball towards the goal but shot wide to the left.
Felician had their first shot attempt with 10:04 left in the first half by Martin Williams, which was saved by redshirt junior goalkeeper
Jacob Pesarcik (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall). In the final six minutes of the half, Bloomsburg junior
Brett Milden (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) took a shot on goal after a scramble in front of the net which then hit off the goalie's foot.
The score remained tied at the beginning of the second half. The Huskies continued to dominate offensively. With 31:12 left in the game Transue's header off of a throw in by Walker, was blocked.
With 21:52 left in the second half, Transue had a break away into the box where he was taken down by Felician's Bashkim Saiti. After Saiti's red card, Transue scored on the penalty kick to give Bloomsburg the lead, 1-0.
In the final nine minutes of the game the Huskies looked to extend their lead as Transue's attempt bounced off the crossbar and sophomore
Nick DiBiase (East Hanover, N.J./DePaul Catholic)'s follow up shot was blocked. Transue led the team offensively with five shots followed by Geller with three.
Bloomsburg outshot Felician, 17-7. Pesarcik recorded three saves in goal for his fourth collegiate win, while Felician's Burns recorded eight.
The Huskies will travel to Wheeling Jesuit University on Saturday, Sept. 3 for a 1 p.m. start.
