BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - After recording only six goals in its first six games and playing to a pair of scoreless double-overtime ties in the last three contests, the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team found life on Tuesday night with a convincing 5-0 win over visiting Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday night at Steph Pettit Stadium. The Huskies improved to 3-2-2 overall while the Griffins dropped to 1-5-0 on the season.
The five-goal outburst marked the first time this season that the Huskies registered more than two goals in a game and nearly doubled their season's offensive output to date.
Four Huskies scored their first goals of the season on Tuesday night, including freshman
Megan Callan (Eldersburg, Md./Century)'s first collegiate goal in the 47th minute and senior
Emily Potter (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run)'s first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute. Callan's score was the fourth goal of the game for Bloomsburg as junior
Rachel Yenney (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was given her first assist of the season by finding the freshman forward sprinting up the left wing. Potter's goal, the final score of the night, occurred on a header off of a corner kick. Junior
Hannah Miller (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge) picked up her second of two assists on Potter's goal.
The other two Huskies that notched their first goals of the season were senior
Jenna Fisher (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) in the 18th minute and sophomore
Jessica Supp (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) in the 43rd minute. Sophomore
Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area) scored the second goal of the game via penalty kick in the 23rd minute. Barber's goal was her second of the season - her first came in Bloomsburg's 2-1 win over Millersville on September 3.
Fisher's goal was a touch pass up the right side from Barber to sophomore
Madison Doller (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) who then centered a pass to Fisher. Barber and Doller were both given assists on the score. Miller picked up her first assist of the game and the season on Supp's goal - also off of a corner kick.
The Huskies spent much of their time on the Griffins' half of the field and were aggressive on offense. Bloomsburg outshot Chestnut Hill, 23-5, and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper
Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) recorded three saves for her fourth shutout of the season. Chestnut Hill goalkeeper Leah Peshkin stopped five shots.
On Saturday, Bloomsburg will return to conference play and will travel to California University of Pennsylvania for a 3:30 game against the Vulcans. The next time the Huskies will play at Steph Pettit Stadium is Tuesday, September 27 for a 7:00 p.m. match against Shippensburg.
