CALIFORNIA, Pa. - Freshman
Megan Callan (Eldersburg, Md./Century) scored with 45 seconds left in regulation to lift the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout victory at California University of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility. With the win, the Huskies improved to 4-2-2 overall and 3-2-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action. The Vulcans, meanwhile, dropped to 1-5-2 overall and 1-5-2 in conference play.
With time winding down in regulation, junior
Rachel Yenney (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) played an outlet pass ahead to sophomore
Jessica Supp (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) to start one last rush in regulation for the Huskies. Supp found Callan on a centering feed and the freshman forward was able to beat California goalkeeper Meghan Jayes for the only goal of the contest.
It was Callan's second goal of the season and second goal in as many games. She scored her first collegiate goal in the Huskies' 5-0 win over Chestnut Hill last Tuesday.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) picked up her PSAC-leading fifth shutout of the season by having to make just one save in the contest. She now has 14 career shutouts in 27 career starts dating back to last season. Jayes suffered the hard-luck loss with eight saves for the Vulcans.
Bloomsburg dominated play throughout the contest as the Huskies outshot the Vulcans, 14-2, and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Huskies return to Steph Pettit Stadium on Tuesday night, September 27, when they host Shippensburg University. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
