BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night as the visiting Shippensburg Raiders defeated the Huskies, 1-0, in overtime at Steph Pettit Stadium. The loss dropped the Huskies to 4-3-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) standings. The Raiders improved to 6-4-0 overall and 4-4-0 in league play.
Shippensburg's score came just under two minutes into overtime on a header off of a corner kick. Junior forward Bailey Bzdak scored her third goal of the season on the header that was just out of the reach of Bloomsburg sophomore goalkeeper
Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood). Senior defender Stephanie Allshouse took the corner kick and was credited with the assist on the score.
Bloomsburg outshot Shippensburg in both halves and finished with a 16-9 margin through regulation. That would change, however, in overtime as the Raiders moved the ball into Huskies' territory right off the bat. Bloomsburg was unable to force the ball to the other side of the field and Shippensburg had one shot recorded before Bzdak head-butted the ball in to the goal for the winning score.
The Huskies still held a 16-11 margin in shots and had a slim 5-4 edge in corner kicks for the match.
Shippensburg junior goalkeeper Leah Roy was tested by Bloomsburg's offense throughout the game and finished the match with nine saves. Haviland had registered just one save before Bzdak's winning goal.
Bloomsburg will be back in action on Saturday, October 1, for a 1:00 p.m. match against Slippery Rock at Steph Pettit Stadium.
