FIVE THINGS TO WATCH
- Both teams are coming off of season-opening victories last week. The Huskies held on for a 24-20 victory at Stonehill on Friday night while the Golden Eagles took care of Lock Haven, at home, on Thursday night, 41-24.
- Bloomsburg has rattled off 17 consecutive winning seasons and 17 consecutive seasons of seven or more victories. Only Division I's Florida State (31) and Virginia Tech (23), Division II's Northwest Missouri State (19), and Division III's Mount Union (27) have longer streaks in all of college football. Boise State and Oklahoma have streaks equal to that of Bloomsburg's.
- After rushing for 1,447 yards and ten touchdowns last season, senior running back Lawrence Elliott, Jr. got off to a great start in 2016. He rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns in the win at Stonehill. Elliott, Jr. now needs 294 yards for 2,000 in his career. The Huskies, meanwhile, have had a 1,000-yard rusher in six straight seasons and in 12 of the last 13 years.
- Clarion senior quarterback Connor Simmons was named the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week after going 25-of-41 for 396 yards and four touchdowns in the victory against Lock Haven. He became Clarion's second QB to throw for 50 career TDs and needs less than 100 yards to move into second on the school's all-time passing yardage list.
- This is head coach
Paul Darragh's first meeting against Clarion as the Huskies' head coach. Darragh is 7-2 against schools from the PSAC West since taking over in 2013.
FROM THE ARCHIVES (by BU Archivist, Bob Dunkelberger)
- With the four-point victory last Friday, the Huskies have now won their last four games dating back to last season by a total of 16 points. This is the smallest total margin-of-victory the program has had in four straight wins since 1990, when games over Kutztown, Central Connecticut, Cheyney, and Mansfield were won by a combined total of just 10 points.
Â
- Bloomsburg's 24-20 win over Stonehill was just the second time in 1,051 games in school history that a victory came by that score. The only other 24-20 win occurred in 1995 in a night game at California.
Â
- The Huskies have won 15 of the last 16 home openers since 1999. The school's all-time record in home openers in 118 seasons is 74-39-5.
Â
- Bloomsburg's record versus teams in the PSAC West over the past 17 seasons since 1999 is 47-16. The Huskies are 25-6 at home and 22-10 on the road.
Â
- The next victory for the Huskies at Redman Stadium will be the program's 150th at home since the stadium opened in 1974. The team's record in the last 42 seasons at Redman is 149-70-4, which includes a post-season mark of 6-3. Bloomsburg has had 16 consecutive winning seasons at home and 21 of the past 22, with the last losing season coming in 1993. The team's overall record at home since 2000 is 78-15 and 103-21-1 since 1994, a winning percentage of .828.
Â
- The upcoming game with Clarion is the 12th in the series between the two schools, dating back to the first meeting in 1934 when the teams tied 0-0. Bloomsburg's record in the previous 11 games is 6-4-1, with a mark of 3-2 at home and 3-2-1 on the road. The Huskies have beaten the Golden Eagles four consecutive times since the last loss in 1996. The only two home losses versus Clarion occurred in 1946 and 1992.
