LAST TIME OUT ...
The Bloomsburg women's basketball team got off to a fast start on Saturday afternoon and held off visiting Millersville 52-43, at the Nelson Field House for its second consecutive victory. The Huskies led, 35-21, at halftime but managed to score only three points in the third quarter as the Marauders cut the lead to nine, 38-29. Millersville got the Huskies' lead down to four with 2:10 left but Bloomsburg held the Marauders the rest of the way. Senior
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the Huskies. Senior
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) narrowly missed her second double-double of the season as she scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds. The Huskies shot 39.3% from the field (22-of-56) but managed to only attempt 19 shots in the second half. Millersville shot just 25.9% from the floor (15-of-58). The Huskies also held a significant rebounding edge, 45-34, for the contest.
STARTING FIVE ...
1 - Points have been tough to come by this season. Bloomsburg is 17th in the PSAC, and 296th in the country, in points per game (53.5). Only Cheyney is averaging fewer points (53.3) in the PSAC. The Huskies have been held to under 60 points in 12 of the 15 games this season - they scored 61 against Georgian Court and then scored 63 (seven in overtime) in a loss at Gannon. They posted a season-high 67 points at West Chester on December 30. The Huskies are 15th in the league in field goal percentage (37.2%), 17th in three-point percentage (26.2%), and 15th in free throw shooting (63.1%).
2 - On the flip side, the Huskies are, however, ranked sixth in the conference in scoring defense (61.3) and have limited opponents to under 70 points in a game 11 times. Over the last two games, the Huskies have allowed a total of 80 points. The Huskies are 82nd in the nation in points allowed per game. Bloomsburg leads the PSAC, and is 17th in the country, in opponents' three-point percentage (25.5%) and is tied for third in the conference in opponents' field goal percentage (37.8%). The Huskies are also second in the conference in blocked shots per game (4.9), which has them 16th in the country in that department.
3 - Sophomore
Taylor Sneidman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) is developing into a solid contributor at point guard for the Huskies. Sneidman has started each of the last six games for Bloomsburg and is averaging 32.7 minutes in those six starts. In her first 26 career games with the Huskies, Sneidman scored a total of seven points on 2-of-31 from the field and 0-for-18 from long range. However, the slow start to her career is long gone - in her last seven games, Sneidman is averaging 6.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. She also leads the team in three-point accuracy (31.6%; 6-of-19).
4 - Senior
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) is tops on the team in nearly every statistical category this season. She leads the team in scoring (11.8), rebounding (6.0), assists (2.6), and steals (2.1). Klunk has moved into 12th place on the school's all-time list for career assists with 262. She needs 16 helpers to tie Dana Wieller (2009-13) for 11th on the list. Klunk also needs 76 points to reach the 1,000-point milestone for her career.
5 - The Huskies have a very young roster that features only two seniors -
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) and
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) - and no juniors. The rest of the 12-player roster is comprised of five sophomores, one redshirt freshman, and four true freshmen. One of the sophomores,
Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area), joins the team for the first time this season. Barber was an All-PSAC Second Team selection and an NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) All-Atlantic Region Third Team honoree for the Huskies' women's soccer team this fall.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS ...
Kutztown enters the matchup with a 6-13 overall record and a 3-8 mark in the PSAC Eastern Division. The Golden Bears have won two of their last three games, including a 69-68 come-from-behind win at Mansfield in their most recent action on Saturday. In that game, Kutztown trailed by 25 with 3:54 left in the third quarter but scored the Mountaineers, 40-14, over the final 14 minutes of regulation. Kutztown features four players averaging double figures in scoring on a team that is sixth in the PSAC in scoring offense (71.1). Alex Heck leads the team in scoring (14.4) and is second in rebounding (7.4). Kelsey Watson is second in scoring (12.8) but first in rebounding (8.4). She has also blocked a team-high 20 shots. Jenna Altomare (12.1) and Sierra Taylor (11.8) also are in double figures in scoring. Altomare is the main threat from deep as she has hit 44 of the team's 78 threes. Taylor leads the team in assists (4.1). Kutztown, however, is 17th in the PSAC in scoring defense as it allows 75.2 points per game. Only West Chester (76.3) is worse in the league.
LOW SCORING ...
Bloomsburg comes into the contest having scored more than 60 points in a game only three times this season (61 at Georgian Court on November 26; 63 (seven in OT) at Gannon on December 4; and 67 at West Chester on December 30) and is averaging only 53.5 points per game - 17th in the PSAC and 296th in the country. The Huskies average more points than only Cheyney (53.3) in the PSAC. The Huskies have shot better than 40% in a game only six times this season and are 15th in the PSAC at 37.2% on the year.
DEE-FENSE ...
Despite the scoring woes, the Huskies have been in a number of games this season because they have been able to keep their opponents off the board. Bloomsburg's defense has allowed 70 or more points in a game only four times and allow only 61.3 points per game to their opponents. That figure is the sixth-best in the PSAC and 82nd in the country. Over the last two games, both wins, the Huskies have allowed a total of 80 points. In fact, the team has not allowed more than 63 points in a game since allowing a season-high 81 points at West Chester on December 30 (five straight games). Bloomsburg leads the PSAC, and is 17th in the country, in opponents' three-point percentage (25.5%) and it ranks second in the league in blocks per game (4.9).
CLOSING IN ...
Senior
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) continues to get closer to becoming the next player in program history to record 1,000 career points. With her 14 points against Millersville on Saturday, Klunk is now just 76 points away from the milestone and needs to average 6.9 points over the last 11 games to hit the number - less if the Huskies get in the PSAC Tournament. She averages 9.1 points per game for her career.
BLOCK PARTY ...
The Huskies are second in the conference, and 16th in the country, in blocked shots per game (4.9). The Huskies have blocked at least four shots in 11 of the 15 games and have blocked ten shots in a game twice - against Chestnut Hill on November 22 and at Philadelphia on November 27. Freshman
Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) and senior
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) are both tied for eighth in the PSAC in blocks (1.4) while freshman
Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer) is tied for 12th as she averages 1.1 blocks per game. Montana, Ross, and Corridoni have combined for 57 of the team's 74 blocks.
SENIOR LEADERSHIP ...
With only two seniors and no juniors entering the season, a lot of focus has been on the lone upperclassmen -
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) and
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township). Klunk has been a mainstay on the floor as she leads the team in minutes played per game (33.1). She is tops on the team in scoring (11.8), rebounds (6.0), assists (2.6), and steals (2.1). She posted her first double-double of the season, and fourth of her career, with 20 points and 12 rebounds in the Huskies' 61-41 win at Georgian Court. Klunk has moved into 12th place on the school's all-time career assists list with 262 and she needs 74 points to reach the 1,000-career point milestone. Ross has also done some of everything for the Huskies as she is third on the team in scoring (7.6), second in rebounding (5.6), tied for second in assists (2.2), tied for first in blocks (1.4), and tied for second in steals (1.2). Ross is one blocks sh of moving into the top 15 on the school's list for career blocked shots.
