LAST TIME OUT ...
The Huskies saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 75-55 loss to visiting East Stroudsburg at the Nelson Field House. The Warriors came out firing and built up a 28-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and still had a 13-point advantage, 40-27, at halftime. East Stroudsburg got the lead to as many as 26 points early in the fourth quarter before settling for the 20-point win. Senior
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) paced the Huskies with a season-high 21 points and was the only Bloomsburg player to hit double figures. She added five rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and a pair of steals. Imani Brown led three Warriors in double figures with 18 points.
STARTING FIVE ...
1 - Points have been tough to come by this season. Bloomsburg has dropped to last in the PSAC, and 294th in the country, in points per game (54.4). The Huskies have been held to under 60 points in 13 of the 17 games this season - they scored 61 against Georgian Court and then scored 63 (seven in overtime) in a loss at Gannon. They posted 67 points at West Chester on December 30 before their season-high 68 at Kutztown last Wednesday. The Huskies are 14th in the league in field goal percentage (37.7%), 15th in three-point percentage (26.9%), and 15th in free throw shooting (64.0%).
2 - On the flip side, the Huskies are, however, ranked seventh in the conference in scoring defense (62.4) and have limited opponents to under 70 points in a game a dozen times. Over the last four games, the Huskies have allowed a total of 221 points (55.3 per game). Bloomsburg is fourth in the PSAC, 35th in the country, in opponents' three-point percentage (27.2%) and is tied for fifth in the conference in opponents' field goal percentage (39.0%). The Huskies are also second in the conference in blocked shots per game (4.8), which has them 16th in the country in that department.
3 - Sophomore
Taylor Sneidman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) is developing into a solid contributor at point guard for the Huskies. Sneidman has started each of the last eight games for Bloomsburg and is averaging 31.3 minutes in those eight starts. In her first 26 career games with the Huskies, Sneidman scored a total of seven points on 2-of-31 from the field and 0-for-18 from long range. However, the slow start to her career is long gone - in her last nine games, Sneidman is averaging 6.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. She also leads the team in three-point accuracy (31.8%; 7-of-22).
4 - Senior
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) is tops on the team in nearly every statistical category this season. She leads the team in scoring (12.1), rebounding (6.1), and steals (2.3) while ranking second on the team in assists per game (2.5). She leads the team in total assists with 43. Klunk has moved into 12th place on the school's all-time list for career assists with 266. She needs 12 helpers to tie Dana Wieller (2009-13) for 11th on the list. Klunk also needs 48 points to reach the 1,000-point milestone for her career.
5 - The Huskies have a very young roster that features only two seniors -
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) and
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) - and no juniors. The rest of the 12-player roster is comprised of five sophomores, one redshirt freshman, and four true freshmen. One of the sophomores,
Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area), joins the team for the first time this season. Barber was an All-PSAC Second Team selection and an NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) All-Atlantic Region Third Team honoree for the Huskies' women's soccer team this fall.
THE SERIES ...
Bloomsburg leads the all-time series against Lock Haven, 26-18.
LAST MEETING AGAINST LOCK HAVEN ...
Lock Haven outscored Bloomsburg, 16-8, in the fourth quarter and then, 14-10, in overtime to knock off the Huskies, 66-62, at the Thomas Fieldhouse on February 13, 2016.
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) led all scorers with 20 points while
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) chipped in 15 for the Huskies.
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) added nine points, seven rebounds, and six assists in the loss. Mackenzie Livingston led Lock Haven with 19 points while J.J. Hilliard, who forced overtime on a jumper with just over 30 seconds left in regulation, added 16 points. Last year's NCAA Division II leader in rebounds, Lysa Mealing, pulled down a game-high 17 boards. Lock Haven, as a team, outrebounded the Huskies, 47-27.
SCOUTING THE BALD EAGLES ...
Lock Haven enters the contest with a 7-10 overall record and a 4-9 mark in the PSAC Eastern Division. In their last contest, the Bald Eagles suffered a 69-55 loss at West Chester on Saturday afternoon. After starting 5-4, Lock Haven has lost six of its last eight contests and is only 2-5 at the Thomas Fieldhouse this season. The Bald Eagles are 13th in the PSAC in scoring offense (58.5) and tied for eighth in scoring defense (65.9). Lock Haven is 17th in the PSAC in field goal percentage (34.7%) and last in the PSAC in free-throw percentage (57.8%). It does, however, lead the PSAC in rebounding (43.6) and is tied for second in rebounding margin (+4.3). Madison McHale is the only Lock Haven player averaging double digits in scoring this season as she leads the team at 11.7 points per game. She is the main threat from beyond the arc as she has hit 28 of the team's 68 three-pointers. Last year's leading rebounder in all of Division II, Lysa Mealing, is at it again on the boards. She again leads the country in rebounding (12.6) while ranking second on the team in scoring at 9.5 points per game. She also leads the squad in steals (23) and blocks (14).
LOW SCORING ...
Bloomsburg comes into the contest having scored more than 60 points in a game only four times this season (61 at Georgian Court on November 26; 63 (seven in OT) at Gannon on December 4; 67 at West Chester on December 30; and 68 at Kutztown on January 18) and is averaging only 54.4 points per game. The Huskies have dropped to last in the conference, and 294th in the country, in scoring offense this season.
DEE-FENSE ...
Despite the scoring woes, the Huskies have been in a number of games this season because they have been able to keep their opponents off the board. Bloomsburg's defense has allowed 70 or more points in a game only five times and has limited its opponents only 62.4 points per game. That figure is seventh-best in the PSAC. Over the last four games, in which Bloomsburg has gone 3-1, the Huskies have allowed a total of 221 points (55.3 per game). In fact, the team had not allowed more than 66 points in a game, before allowing 75 to East Stroudsburg on Saturday, since giving up a season-high 81 points at West Chester on December 30 (six straight games). Bloomsburg is fourth in the PSAC, and is 35th in the country, in opponents' three-point percentage (27.2%) and it ranks second in the league, 16th in the country, in blocks per game (4.8).
CLOSING IN ...
Senior
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) continues to get closer to becoming the next player in program history to record 1,000 career points. With eight more points against East Stroudsburg on Saturday, Klunk is now just 48 points away from the milestone and needs to average 5.3 points over the last nine games to hit the number - less if the Huskies get in the PSAC Tournament. She averages 9.2 points per game for her career. Klunk is also 12th in school history in career assists with 266.
EPIC COMEBACK ...
Last Wednesday night, the Huskies trailed at Kutztown by 17 points with 6:56 left in regulation - 15 with 5:27 left - but outscored the Golden Bears, 21-2, in the final seven minutes to pull off a stunning 68-66 win - the team's third consecutive victory. Senior
Morgan Klunk (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) carried the team on her back in the fourth quarter - she scored 12 of her game-high 20 points during the fourth quarter and had three of her career-best six steals in the final ten minutes. She was also 6-of-6 at the foul line in the fourth - 8-of-8 for the game.
BLOCK PARTY ...
The Huskies are second in the conference, and 16th in the country, in blocked shots per game (4.8). The Huskies have blocked at least four shots in 12 of the 17 games and have blocked ten shots in a game twice - against Chestnut Hill on November 22 and at Philadelphia on November 27. Senior
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) has taken over the team lead as she averages 1.4 blocks per game - seventh in the PSAC. Freshman
Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) is tied for eighth in the league at 1.3 while freshman
Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer) is tied for 12th as she averages 1.1 blocks per game. Montana, Ross, and Corridoni have combined for 62 of the team's 82 blocks.
MACK ATTACK ...
Sophomore
Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) is becoming a go-to scorer for the Huskies as she ranks second on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game this season after averaging 7.1 points per game as a freshman a year ago. She has reached double figures in scoring nine times this season after hitting the mark seven times a year ago. She is averaging 11.6 points over her last eight games. She also leads the team, and is 13th in the PSAC, with 32 three pointers this year.
