BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team picked up a 3-2 overtime non-conference win over visiting Caldwell at Steph Pettit Stadium on Tuesday (Oct. 10).
A back and forth first half sent the teams to the break scoreless, but the draw lasted only until the 50
th minute. The Huskies established possession in the offensive end, and Cater Luckenbaugh lofted a soft ball over the crowd in the box. The cross bounced in front of the far post, and
Matt Goodall (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) was there to head it in for his second of the season. The Huskies held the lead until the 70
th minute when the Cougars evened the score. Tobias Block and Alessandro Canino played give and go through a crowd in the box before Block fired home his first of the year.
The teams continued the high-tempo play for the next few minutes when a Caldwell infraction set up a Luckenbaugh free kick in the 78
th minute. Luckenbaugh's service into the box found
Sebastian Callender (Middleburg, Pa./Midd-West) who ripped his first of the year to the top shelf out of the air to put BU up 2-1. Four minutes and change when by before the Cougars set up a similar give and go play near the box. Mateo Cobos fed Kyle Hill who led Cobos to space. Cobos fired it on net, with Huskies keeper
Taylor Lesage (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) getting a piece of the ball. The ball hit the turf and the spin carried the ball over the line for Cobos's first of the season. The teams would take the deadlock to the extra session.
The Huskies would end the contest in the 96
th minute when a ball was sent down the far wing for Luckenbaugh. The ball was played out of bounds by Caldwell, and on the ensuing throw-in Luckenbaugh heaved it deep into the box. The ball took one bounce over the crowd of red and gold jerseys in the box and
Brett Milden (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) was waiting on the far post. Milden headed his second of the season into the open net giving the Huskies the win at home.
Bloomsburg out-shot Caldwell 33-16 and held an 11-7 advantage in corner kicks. In addition to goals and Luckenbaugh's three helpers,
Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) fired nine shots including four on net.
Samuel Izzo (Frankford, Del./Indian River) registered six shots, including two on goal, while Tyler Medeira (3)
Brian Kilcoyne (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) (2) and
Thomas King (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) and
Luis Partida (Hanover, Pa. /New Oxford) (1 apiece) also contributed shots.
Taylor Lesage (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) totaled six saves in the win.
The Huskies will return to conference play on Friday (Oct. 13) when they travel to Seton Hill. Kickoff for that match is slated for 12:00 p.m.
