CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team picked up its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win of the season at California (Pa.) on Saturday (Oct. 21) by a score of 3-2.
The two teams played a back and forth first half with neither team scoring, but both teams earned plenty of chances.
The Huskies got on the board in no time in the second half, when
Mike Bazadona III (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) sent a cross into the box that found the foot of
Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, N.J./Mount Olive). Cerda's first of the year gave Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead in the 48
th minute. The Huskies were able to keep up the offensive pressure for the next few minutes, before
Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) rifled a shot from the top of the box that was deflected into the back of the net by Bazadona. Bazadona's fourth of the season put BU up 2-0 in the first seven minutes of the second half.
The two teams played 10 minutes before Cooper Amos scored his first of the year on an assist from Eric Campbell in the 63
rd minute to get the Vulcans on the board. 1:08 after Amos's goal, Bazadona set up Transue with a cross into the box, which Transue finished with his head for his third of the year. BU led 3-1 in the 64
th minute, before Campbell would get the Vulcans back within one with a header for his fourth of the season. After a Bloomsburg infraction, Ismael Garcia sent a free kick into the box, which Campbell headed in for the Vulcans' second goal on the afternoon.
As a team, Bloomsburg out-shot California (Pa.) 16-14, including 7-5 in shots on goal. The visitors also held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks in the match. Bazadona led Bloomsburg with a four-point outing on one goal and two assists, while Transue recorded one goal and one assist for three points. Transue and
Samuel Izzo (Frankford, Del./Indian River) each recorded four shots in the win, while
Brian Kilcoyne (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) and
Kristopher Gross (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) each fired two.
Brett Milden (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) and
Matt Goodall (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) each registered one in the contest.
Taylor Lesage (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) made three saves in the win.
The Huskies will travel to Jefferson College on Monday (Oct .23) in a makeup contest from back on Sept. 6. Kickoff for that match is slated for 2:30 p.m.
