BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team dropped its exhibition game at the University at Buffalo Friday night (Nov. 3) 64-32.
The Huskies started off with a cold-shooting first quarter, falling behind 15-4.
Megan Brandt (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and
Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer) recorded the Huskies only points in the frame.
The second quarter posed better for the Huskies, as they went to the half down 31-17 after only being outscored 16-13. The Huskies were able to gather some momentum late in the second quarter when they found themselves down 25-11 with 4:47 left in the half. A
Leah Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) jumper assisted by
Payton Spadaccino (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock South) followed by another Myers layup got the Huskies to within 12. The Bulls regained the 14 point lead to go to the half.
The second half started out with two quick buckets from
Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick), to get the Huskies within 10, before Buffalo pushed back and rattled off a 6-0 run that spanned over one minute. The Bulls took control in the later minutes of the third quarter, doubling up the Huskies 20-10 to take a 51-27 lead.
The Bulls controlled the fourth quarter already up, holding Bloomsburg to only five points.
As a team, Bloomsburg shot 29.7 percent from the floor and 69.2 percent from the stripe. They collected 35 total rebounds in the contest. Montana's nine points led the Huskies, while Myers had seven and
Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer) chipped in six. Corridoni also led the team with 30 minutes on the floor. Montana also played 26, while
Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) logged 25.
Megan Brandt (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and Myers were the other Huskies to log at least 20 minutes. Six rebounds apiece from Myers and
Lauren Oeth (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) paced the effort on the glass.
The Huskies open the regular season next Saturday, Nov. 11 against Glenville State in the Carol Eckman Memorial Tournament, which will be played at Widener University (Chester, Pa.). Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m.
