Shippensburg, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play with an 8-4 victory at Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Huskies move to 4-1 (1-0 PSAC) on the season.
Freshman Sydney Collins (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and senior Brigid Kyne (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) led the way with two goals and one assist apiece. Overall, six different Bloomsburg players scored on the day. Additionally, freshman Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) recorded a career-high 11 saves, giving her a total of 42 stops for the season.
The two teams started out slow, trading shots and turnovers in the game's' opening minutes, before Shippensburg's Morgan Stone opened the scoring at the 25:13 mark.
The Huskies would take control from that point, scoring five consecutive goals in a 19 minute stretch by five different players. Kyne and Collins started the scoring with unassisted scores, and were followed by Erin Boulger (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area), Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West).
The Raiders would add one goal just before the half, but Bloomsburg took a 5-2 lead into the break.
The Huskies came out of the intermission firing on all cylinders, as they saw Lindsey Coyle (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), Collins and Kyne put shots past the goalie to give Bloomsburg an 8-2 advantage.
Shippensburg would score twice in a minute span with six minutes to play, cutting the deficit to 8-4, but could not get any closer.
The Huskies outshot the Raiders, 22-20, and committed just 20 fouls in comparison to Shippensburg's 39.
