Bloomsburg, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University softball team swept Mansfield in a doubleheader to open' Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies earned a tight, 1-0 win in game one thanks to a complete game shutout from Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run), and mercy-ruled the Mountaineers, 14-0 (5 inn.), as Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) tossed a no-hitter including 11 strikeouts.
With the sweep, Bloomsburg moves to 9-11 (2-0 PSAC) on the season, while Mansfield falls to 10-7 (0-2 PSAC)
GAME ONE RECAP
In the opener, Parker silenced the Mountaineer bats, as the senior tallied six strikeouts and gave up just four hits in the circle. Julia Knight (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) drove in the only run in the game with a RBI single that scored Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) in the bottom of the fifth inning. Winkelman and Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Knight recorded one hit and the lone RBI.
GAME TWO RECAP
The Huskies opened the floodgates in the second game, and cruised to a 14-0 win in just five innings. Tomaschik pitched her best game of the young season, racking up 11 strikeouts and walking just one batter while allowing no hits in her five innings of work.
Parker went to work at the plate in this contest, launching a two-run home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning. The Huskies added four more runs in the second frame thanks to some errors by the Mansfield defense, and led, 6-0, heading into the third inning.
Parker cleared the bases in the bottom of the fourth with a double to left-center field, plating Erin Smith (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area), Winkelman and Ashli Venokur (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick). Bloomsburg would then score its' next three runs via bases loaded walks, before Winkelman drove in the final two runs on a double to the gap, scoring Tomaschik and Alexa Erney (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley).

The Huskies will travel to continue PSAC play with a doubleheader at Clarion on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
