Buckhannon, W. Va. - The Bloomsburg University softball team saw its' usually-potent offense stall in a 2-1 NCAA Atlantic Regional loss to Kutztown on Thursday afternoon. With the loss, the Huskies dropped to 31-19 (16-4 PSAC), while the Golden Bears moved to 31-15 on the season.
GAME RECAP AND NOTES
Kutztown got itself on the board in the bottom of the second inning as pitcher Savannah Nierintz singled off of
Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run). She would advance to third on a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch, and would score on a Bloomsburg error.
Nierintz would carry her strong play into the circle, where she fanned eight Husky batters and allowed just three hits and one unearned run on the day.
Bloomsburg tied the game in the top of fifth inning when
Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield)Â singled with one out.
Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) came up next and laced a ball down into left field that was misplayed, allowing Winkelman to come all the way around to score.
The tie was short-lived however, as Sarah Keeny would single to begin the bottom of the fifth. Tamara Jennings stepped up to the plate and sacrificed bunted, but a throwing error put the ball down the right field line and allowed Keeny to score the go-ahead run.
Nierintz would get the final six outs to clinch the win for the Golden Bears.Â
In the Bloomsburg circle, Parker tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits and two runs (one earned).
