Huskies Drop Season Opener to Georgian Court

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team dropped its season opener on home turf to Georgian Court Friday night (Sept. 1) 1-0.

Both teams generated plenty of chances throughout the game, and both goalies came up big time and time again to keep the contest scoreless. The teams went to the half scoreless, and maintained the same intensity well into the second half.

Georgian Court made a push toward their offensive end in the 63rd minute. A long ball was sent forward, and Javel Dawkins was upended at the edge of the box. A foul was called, and Dawkins was awarded a penalty shot. He was able to deke Bloomsburg net-minder Taylor Lesage (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) and net his first of the year, which would ultimately prove to be the game-winner.

The Huskies were able to push back offensively, slowly shifting play in their favor in the offensive end as the minutes ticked on. With just over 10 minutes remaining, Bloomsburg had a chance off a corner piece coupled with a deflection. The ball was sent in by Carter Luckenbaugh (York, Pa./Central York) from the right corner, and caught a piece of a Georgian Court defender as well as Bloomsburg's Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy). The ball bounced right to Mike Bazadona III (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), who deked right on his defender and let it fly. The shot had top shelf written all over it, before Lions keeper Yianna Kvarakas got a piece of it and directed it wide. The Huskies would play a few more good chances into the box, but were ultimately unsuccessful in stashing one home.

Transue led the offense firing four shots and putting two on frame. Bazadona, Luckenbaugh, Eddie May (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham), Tyler Madeira (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Hamilton Rodkey (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) also fired shots for the Huskies. Lesage made two saves in the contest.

The Huskies travel across state lines on Sunday (Sept. 3) to battle Goldey-Beacom College (Del.). Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
