WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest at West Chester on Sunday (Sept. 24) by a score of 2-1.
The Huskies got the start they wanted in a big game on the road, being able to push the tempo and play in their offensive end from the start. In the 11
th minute, it was
Hannah Miller (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge) starting the play and finding
Jessica Supp (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) in space. Supp beat the keeper for her first of the year to put the Huskies out in front 1-0. The teams played a back and forth style for the next 20 minutes, before West Chester struck to knot the game in the 31
st minute. Linzi Wolfe found Carmen Telesco on the right side of the box. Telesco ripped it home for her first of the year to square the match at one-apiece. The teams took the draw to the half.
The first 15 minutes of the second half mirrored the back and forth play of the first, before the Golden Rams broke through for the game-winner in the 60
th minute. The Golden Rams established possession in their offensive end, and Nikki Caffey fired a shot on net that
Jenna Hawkins (Hamburg, Pa./Fleetwood) was able to stop. Hawkins knocked the ball down and it deflected right to Shannon Cooley, who stashed home her first of the season for the game winner.
The Huskies (6-2-1, 5-2-1 PSAC) registered four shots in the contest, putting three on goal. BU totaled six corner kicks in the loss. In addition to Supp's goal,
Rachel Yenney (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley),
Mackenzie Gebhardt (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen),
Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and
Taylor Zucco (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) each recorded shots. Hawkins made five saves in the contest.
The Huskies are back at home on Saturday (Sept. 30) when they host Clarion in PSAC action. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Bloomsburg's Steph Pettit Stadium.
