#9 Field Hockey Blanked At Top-Ranked West Chester Wednesday Afternoon

HTML BOX SCORE

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The ninth-ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey allowed four second-half goals on Wednesday afternoon and dropped a 4-0 decision at top-ranked West Chester University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Vonnie Gros Field. The loss dropped the Huskies to 7-4 overall and 1-3 in league play while the Golden Rams improved to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in conference action.

Despite getting outshot 9-1 in the opening half, the Huskies found themselves in a scoreless tie after the first 35 minutes as sophomore goalkeeper Dana Sheply (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) kept the Golden Rams off the scoreboard with six saves.

However, less than three minutes into the second half, West Chester broke through as Katie Thompson beat Sheply with a backhand sweep to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Less than five minutes later, the Golden Rams extended the lead to 2-0 when Kelsey Munster banged home a rebound after an initial save by Sheply. In the 54th minute, Kaitlyn Hatch ballooned the advantage to 3-0 off of an assist from Emily Evans and then Thompson put the finishing touches on the scoring with her second marker of the game in the 63rd minute. Evans picked up her second assist of the afternoon.

Sheply dropped to 3-3 on the season despite turning aside a season-high 10 shots. West Chester's Marissa Elizardo stopped one shot - off of the stick from junior Tesa Hoffman (Freeburg, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) - to improve to 10-1 on the season. The Golden Rams outshot the Huskies, 18-3, for the contest and held a 7-2 edge in penalty corners.

Bloomsburg will look to regroup on Saturday morning, October 20, when it hosts fifth-ranked Shippensburg University at Steph Pettit Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and will be televised live. Stay tuned for coverage availability in your area.
