Women's Volleyball Falls In Four Sets At Slippery Rock Friday Night

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's volleyball team fell in four sets at Slippery Rock University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Morrow Field House. After winning the first set, 25-22, the Huskies lost the next three sets - 25-22, 25-18, and 28-26 - to fall to 5-16 overall and 1-11 in the PSAC Central Division. The Rock, meanwhile, improved to 8-12 overall and 5-7 in the PSAC Northwest Division.

Redshirt senior Sarah Gomish (Ebensburg, Pa./Bishop Carroll Catholic) recorded her seventh double-double of the season as she led the Huskies with 13 kills and 14 digs on the night. Her 14 digs moves her to within 32 of collecting 1,000 for her collegiate career. Freshman Mary Kate Mooney (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) narrowly missed a double-double as she chipped in with eight kills and 17 digs. Freshman Mia Nicholes (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) had a solid hitting performance as she led the way with a .385 percentage with seven kills and two errors in 13 attempts. Freshman Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) led with 16 assists to go along with two kills, two aces, and seven digs in an all-around performance. Freshman Emma Van Arsdale (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) finished with 15 assists while sophomore Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) posted a team-high 23 digs on the defensive end. Freshmen Grace Giza (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and Alora Conrad (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each had three assisted blocks on the night to tie for the team lead in that department.

The Huskies, however, had no answer for Slippery Rock's duo of Beth Stumpf and Shayla Ray as they combined for 29 kills and a .446 hitting percentage. Stumpf led with 17 kills to go along with 13 digs while Ray had 12 kills, one solo block, and two assisted blocks. Zoe Rivet finished with 49 assists on the night to go along with 21 digs and four service aces. Jalyn Willard had a team-high 25 digs.

Bloomsburg hit just .110 on the night with a high of .191 during the back-and-forth fourth set. Slippery Rock hit .235, posting percentages above .300 in both the first and third sets.

The Huskies will get back to work on Saturday night, October 20, when they head to Edinboro University to battle the Fighting Scots. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
