Women's Volleyball Suffers Straight-Set Loss At Edinboro Saturday Night

EDINBORO, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's volleyball team suffered a straight-set loss at Edinboro University on Saturday night - 25-15, 25-16, 25-20 - as the Huskies dropped to 5-17 overall and 1-12 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division. The Fighting Scots improved to 13-10 overall and 6-7 in the PSAC Northwest Division.

Bloomsburg hit just .043 for the match and finished with 23 kills in the three sets. Redshirt senior Sarah Gomish (Ebensburg, Pa./Bishop Carroll Catholic) led with six kills while chipping in with seven digs on the night. She is now 25 digs away from reaching 1,000 for her collegiate career after reaching the same milestone in kills at California back on September 15. Freshmen Mary Kate Mooney (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) and Grace Giza (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) added five kills apiece while fellow freshman Bailee Nitterhouse (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), who made her first career start on Saturday, added three kills. Freshman Emma Van Arsdale (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) led the way with a dozen assists while sophomore Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) had a team-high 14 digs. At the net, Giza and freshman Mia Nicholes (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) each had three assisted blocks.

Alica Eldredge nearly posted a triple-double as she led the Fighting Scots with 11 kills and 31 assists while chipping in with seven digs. Cierah Jackson added nine kills while Sally Sterkel and Hannah Cantrill had eight apiece. Megan Screptock and Molly Breier had 16 and 15 digs, respectively. Paige Morris had a big night at the net for Edinboro as she paced the Fighting Scots with two solo blocks and three assisted blocks. Edinboro hit .299 for the match and did not hit lower than .278 in any of the three sets.

Bloomsburg will take a break from conference action on Wednesday, October 24, when it makes the short trip to Susquehanna University to battle the River Hawks. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Huskies will return to the Nelson Field House on Friday, October 26, and Saturday, October 27, when they host Mercyhurst and Gannon, respectively.
