SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's volleyball suffered a four-set loss at Susquehanna University on Wednesday night in the team's final non-conference match of the season. The River Hawks won the first two sets, 25-20, 25-18, before the Huskies bounced back to take the third, 26-24. Susquehanna finished off the match with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set. Bloomsburg dropped to 5-18 overall while Susquehanna improved to 21-12 on the year.
Freshman
Grace Giza (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) led the Huskies in scoring with 11 points as she posted eight kills and a career-high six assisted blocks as she continues to emerge as a key figure at the net for the Huskies. Joining her with a solid night at the net was freshman
Mia Nicholes (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) who had eight kills on a team-high .263 hitting percentage. Nicholes added three assisted blocks in the loss. Freshman
Bailee Nitterhouse (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) had her best night at the collegiate level on Wednesday as she posted six kills and 12 digs while also tying for the team-high with three service aces. Freshman
Molly Prior (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had a career-high four assisted blocks.
Redshirt senior
Sarah Gomish (Ebensburg, Pa./Bishop Carroll Catholic) recorded her eighth double-double of the season as she led the team in both kills (10) and digs (21). She now needs four digs to reach 1,000 for her collegiate career. Sophomore
Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) had 20 digs as she did not post a team-high in that category for the first time this season. Freshmen
Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) and
Emma Van Arsdale (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) again shared setter duties. Van Arsdale led with 18 assists while also posting nine digs and three aces. Stek had 15 assists and eight digs.
Kody Dillon led the River Hawks with 17 kills while Riley O'Dowd chipped in with 10. Lizzie Herestofa posted a match-high 22 digs and Lindsey Pugh led the way with 47 assists.
Bloomsburg had 41 kills on the night but hit just .087 for the match. Susquehanna, meanwhile, had 60 kills with a .249 hitting percentage. The River Hawks held a slight edge in total blocks, 9-7, over the Huskies.
The Huskies will return to the Nelson Field House on Friday, October 26, and Saturday, October 27, as they host Mercyhurst and Gannon, respectively. Start times are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday night and 12:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
