INDIANA, Pa. - Afternoon rain forced the cancellation of the Bloomsburg University women's tennis match at IUP on Saturday.
Originally scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., morning rain forced the match to be pushed into the afternoon. After doubles action, more showers led to a delay before additional rain eventually led to the cancellation of the match.
IUP scored the doubles point with seniors
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) and
Siena Cerra (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) winning at #3 by default. Cerra earned a default win at #6 singles to tie the match at 1-1 before the cancellation. Of the five singles matches that got underway, only junior
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) earned a victory in the opening set as she defeated Thais Andreotti, 6-3, but was trailing in the second set, 2-0. Sophomore
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) was a game away from evening her match with Mariana Valenzuela at #3 singles.
