BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five straight with a 3-1 victory over visiting Slippery Rock University on Saturday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium. With the victory, the Huskies improved to 8-2-1 overall with an identical 8-2-1 record against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponents. The Huskies are two points behind Millersville for first place in the conference standings with three weeks left in the regular season. The Rock dropped to 7-4-2 overall and 5-4-2 in league play.
The Huskies wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as sophomore
Christina Podpora (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) scored her first collegiate goal nine and-a-half minutes into the contest to take a 1-0 lead. Senior
Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area) registered her first of two assists on the afternoon. Freshman
Nicole Varano (Paxinos, Pa./Mt. Carmel) extended the advantage to 2-0 in the 27th minute when she headed a pass from Barber past Slippery Rock goalkeeper Kylie Downs for her first career goal.
The score remained 2-0 until the 64th minute when Slippery Rock's Skye Kramer scored to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Brooke Testa had the assist. Kramer's goal snapped Bloomsburg's streak of 472:37 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal dating back to a second-half goal by Gannon back on September 15. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Jenna Hawkins (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) had her streak snapped at 461:06 without allowing a goal.

Mackenzie Gebhardt (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) gave the Huskies an insurance goal when she knocked home her second of the season from sophomore
Lauren Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) in the 86th minute to extend the lead to 3-1. Hoelke's assist was her fifth helper of the season, extending her team lead and putting her in a tie for fourth in the conference in that category.
Bloomsburg held a significant, 16-3, edge in shots including an 8-0 margin in the opening half. The Huskies also had three corner kick opportunities to Slippery Rock's one. Hawkins did not record a save but improved to 8-2-1 on the season. Downs dropped to 5-4-1 on the year with a six-save performance.
Bloomsburg returns home on Friday, October 12, to host Seton Hill in a pivotal conference matchup at Steph Pettit Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
