Men's Soccer Blanked At Georgian Court, 2-0, Tuesday Afternoon

HTML BOX SCORE

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team allowed two late second-half goals and dropped a 2-0 decision at Georgian Court University on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The Huskies dropped to 6-6 overall while the Lions improved to 11-2 on the season.

It was just the second meeting between the two schools on the pitch with the Lions, after Tuesday's contest, earning the win in both contests.

Georgian Court mounted a majority of the pressure throughout the contest but could not dent the scoreboard until Joel Quist headed a cross from Landry Cheta past sophomore goalkeeper Brock Gould (York, Pa./Red Lion) in the 75th minute. Three minutes later, Jonathan Firmino added an insurance goal when he headed a corner kick from Vinicius Monteiro to extend the advantage to 2-0.

The Huskies attempted just two shots all afternoon - one each from junior Mike Bazadona III (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and senior Kevin Rodriguez (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) - while the Lions attempted 25 shots against the Bloomsburg defense. However, only six of Georgian Court's shot attempts were on goal as Gould was credited with only four saves as he saw his record fall to 4-3 on the season. Meanwhile, Yianni Kavarakas did not record a save in posting his third shutout of the season. He improved to 3-2 on the year.

Georgian Court held a slight edge in corner kicks, 4-3.

Bloomsburg will return to conference action, and will return home, on Friday, October 12, when it hosts Seton Hill University at Steph Pettit Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Earlier in the day, the Huskies climbed one spot in the latest United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Regional poll and are now ninth in the region.
