KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team outscored Lincoln University, 22-11, in the fourth quarter which erased a four-point deficit and lifted the Huskies to a 54-47 victory over the Lions on Saturday afternoon at Kutztown University's Keystone Arena on day two of the Conference Challenge. Bloomsburg finished the two-day season-opening tournament with a perfect 2-0 record while Lincoln, which defeated Kutztown on Friday night to open the season, dropped to 1-1 on the year.

Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) scored all 13 of her points in the second half to pace the Huskies on the offensive end. Montana was 6-of-9 from the field and also pulled down five rebounds in the victory. Junior
Bella Ricci (Etters, Pa./Red Land) was also in double figures with 11 points while leading the Huskies with four assists. It marked the first time that Ricci reached double figures in a Bloomsburg uniform. Senior
Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and sophomore
Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) chipped in with nine points apiece while sophomore
Darcy Lee (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds to go along with three points. Saxton, meanwhile, added eight boards to finish one point and two rebounds shy of a double-double.
The Lions led by as many as seven, 30-23, with four minutes left in the third quarter before the Huskies trimmed the lead to four, 36-32, heading to the final stanza. Bloomsburg scored the first six points of the quarter - on a pair of layups from Montana and two foul shots from sophomore
Payton Spadaccino (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock South) - to take a 38-36 advantage before the Lions responded with a three-pointer from Kenzie Spencer to retake a one-point lead, 39-38, with 5:47 left in regulation. But, the Huskies went on a 14-3 run over the next four minutes to take a 52-42 advantage with just over a minute left and then settled for the seven-point win. During the spurt, Saxton, Ricci, Mack, and Lee each scored three points while Montana added two.
Lincoln held a 21-19 lead at halftime, outscoring the Huskies by a single point in each of the first two quarters. The Lions extended the lead in the third by outscoring Bloomsburg, 15-13, before the Huskies got things going offensively in the fourth.
Both teams struggled offensively despite the Huskies' late flourish. Bloomsburg shot just 16-of-54 (29.6%) from the field for the contest which includes a 6-of-11 showing (54.5%) in the fourth quarter. Lincoln, meanwhile, shot even worse from the field - 14-of-59 (23.7%) - on the afternoon. The Huskies went just 2-of-17 (11.8%) from long range while the Lions fared slightly better as they went 3-of-24 (12.5%) from deep.Â
Bloomsburg was 20-fo-26 from the foul line (76.9%) while Lincoln converted 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the stripe.
The Huskies held a 48-42 edge on the glass but did turn the ball over 25 times on the day. Lincoln, which committed 22 turnovers, got 15 points from Kenzie Spencer and a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) from Shakira Edwards in the loss.
Bloomsburg will be on the road on Wednesday, November 14, when it travels to Indiana University of Pennsylvania for a non-conference matchup against the Crimson Hawks. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
