BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Senior Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) scored a season-high 22 points to lift the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 67-53 victory over Pitt-Johnstown in a non-conference matchup at the Nelson Field House on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 3-1 on the season while the Mountain Cats were dealt their first setback of the year as they dropped to 3-1 overall.

The Huskies' victory over the Mountain Cats was just the fifth in 16 career matchups between the two schools.

Mack went 8-of-14 from the field and hit 4-of-7 from beyond the arc en route to her ninth career 20-point game and her second in four contests this season. The senior also grabbed five rebounds and had a pair of steals in 27 minutes off the bench. Fellow senior Marissa Molnar (Erie, Pa./McDowell) was also in double figures as she finished with 11 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, and a game-high three steals. Junior Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) was one point shy of a double-double as she posted nine points and ten rebounds while sophomore Megan Brandt (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) added a season-high eight points in the victory.

The Huskies never trailed on the afternoon as Montana started the scoring with a layup on the game's first possession. After Pitt-Johnstown's Gabrielle Smith tied the game at 2-2, Bloomsburg went on an 11-0 run to take a 13-2 advantage with 5:32 left in the opening quarter. Sophomore Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) had four points during the run while Molnar knocked down her first of three triples on the day. Montana and sophomore Payton Spadaccino (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock South) each had two points to account for the other four points during the spurt. Bloomsburg built a 13-point lead at 19-6 after back-to-back threes from Mack before the Mountain Cats went on a 5-0 run to close out the quarter.

Spadaccino finished with six points and four rebounds.

Pitt-Johnstown's late run carried over into the second quarter as the Mountain Cats battled back to tie the game at 27-27 with 3:52 left before Molnar hit another three to regain a three-point lead for the Huskies. Bloomsburg never looked back from that point as Pitt-Johnstown got no closer than three points the rest of the afternoon. The Huskies built the advantage to as many as 17 points on a couple separate occasions late in the fourth quarter before settling for the 14-point victory.

The difference on Saturday came on turnovers. Pitt-Johnstown turned the ball over 17 times which resulted in 23 Bloomsburg points. The Huskies, meanwhile, turned the ball over seven times on the day which led to only four Pitt-Johnstown points.

Bloomsburg was 24-of-63 (38.1%) from the field and hit 7-of-20 (35.0%) from beyond the arc. Pitt-Johnstown was 18-of-48 (37.5%) shooting on the day and made 6-of-16 (37.5%) from deep.

Also of note for the Huskies on Saturday - freshman Tehya Hosey (Lemoyne, Pa./Cedar Cliff) scored the first three points of her collegiate career, all of which came on foul shots late in the second quarter.
