ORLANDO, Fla. – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team went 1-1 on Tuesday (Mar. 13), dropping their first match to Dallas Baptist 9-0 before defeating Shippensburg 9-0 in the nightcap.
Against Shippensburg, the Huskies won all three doubles matches before sweeping all six singles matches.
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) earned an 8-1 victory over Catherine Miller and Gabbie Binder at No. 1 doubles, while
Ashley Barebo (Emmaus, Pa./Notre Dame) and
Cara Eschenmann (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) won 8-2 at No. 3 over Meghan Moorhead and Victoria Galanti.
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and
Chloe Berridge (York, Pa./Dallastown) also picked up an 8-3 win over Daisy Rundio and Kaylin Gallagher at No. 2 doubles. In singles play, Bonito defeated Miller 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 before
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) defeated Binder 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Wentz beat Gallagher 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, while Berridge won at No. 4 over Rundio 6-2, 6-4.
Catherine Garrity (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) defeated Moorhead 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5, before Sienna Cerra closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Galanti.
Dallas Baptist moves to 8-5 with the win, while Bloomsburg moves to 1-3 and Shippensburg falls to 0-9.
The Huskies are back in action on Thursday (Mar. 15) when they take on Ithaca at a time to be announced.
