CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bloomsburg University softball team began Wednesday (Mar. 14) with a 6-1 win over Post University, before dropping a 3-0 contest to fellow Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) member Slippery Rock in game two. This was the second doubleheader split in as many days for the Huskies.

The game against Post was scoreless after two innings, before Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) got the Huskies on the board with a sacrifice fly that scored Erin Smith (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area). Post would score their only run in the top of the fourth on Sara Selimovski's first home of the season, before BU would score five runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. In the fifth, three straight one-out singles from Winkelman, Maggie Hall (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) and Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) set the stage for Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge). Mayhew would reach on a throwing error by the third baseman, scoring Winkelman and leaving the bases juiced for Ashli Venokur (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick). Venokur singled to center field, and the ball was misplayed in the outfield. The bases cleared and Venokur reached third on the play, extending BU's lead to 5-1. The Huskies would cap it off with one more run in the sixth, beginning when Smith walked but then was retired on a Winkelman fielder's choice. After stealing second, Winkelman would cross the plate on a RBI double from Hall.

Bloomsburg scored six runs on eight hits while committing one error in the win. Hall and Venokur each had two hits in the win, while four others recorded one hit each. Winkelman, Hall and Venokur each drove in runs, while Winkelman scored twice and Hall, Wheeland, Mayhew and Smith each scored once. Abby Wild (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) (3-1) got the win in the circle, allowing one hit over three innings of scoreless relief. Wild did not issue a walk and punched out three in the effort. Alyssa Davies (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) got the start for the Huskies, going four innings allowing one run on five hits. Davies walked two and struck out four in the no-decision.

The Huskies were held to just three hits in game two against Slippery Rock. Bu did not commit any errors defensively in the loss. Lauren Hawley singled home Emily Nagle in the first, and a Kailey Myers double in the fifth scored Hawley and Becca Roesch.

Winkelman, Hall and Mayhew recorded hits in the loss. Tara Baney (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) (1-2) got hung with the loss in 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. She also issued two free passes and fired five strikeouts. Wild tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out one.

The split moves the Huskies to 6-5, while Post falls to 1-6 and Slippery Rock moves to 11-6.

After a day off, Bloomsburg hits the diamond again on Friday (Mar. 16) for games against Wayne State at 9:00 a.m. and Sioux Falls (S.D.) at 11:30 a.m.
