ORLANDO, Fla. – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team fell in Spring Break action on Thursday (Mar. 15) to Ithaca by a score of 5-4.
The Huskies won one of three doubles matches, before the teams split the six singles matches.
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) dropped a hard fought 8-7 match at No. 1 doubles, while
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and
Chloe Berridge (York, Pa./Dallastown) fell at No. 2 doubles 8-6.
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) and
Catherine Garrity (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) captured the doubles win at No. 3 8-4 over Sara Steinberg and Parley Hannan.
In singles play, Calimer fell 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 while Nery won at No. 2 over Kathryn Shaffer 5-7, 7-6, 10-5. Bonito dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 3, while
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) fell 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 at No. 4. Berridge picked up a 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 win at No. 5, before Wentz finished things off at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hannan.
Bloomsburg falls to 1-4, while Ithaca moves to 3-4.
The Huskies round out their Spring Break tournament taking on Sioux Falls (S.D.) on Friday (Mar. 16). First serve is set for 9:00 a.m.
