BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team defeated visiting Millersville 8-1 on Friday (Mar. 30) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.
The Huskies swept doubles play and won five out of six singles matches.
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) started doubles play with an 8-2 win over Katina Jones and Megan Rovenolt at No. 1, before
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and
Catherine Garrity (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) won 8-0 at No. 2 over Haley Nauman and Kelley Hershey.
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) and Sienna Cerra completed the sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 3 over Victoria Hanus and Lauren Weaver.
In singles play, Calimer dropped her No. 1 match 6-3, 6-4 before Nery won at No. 2 6-3, 6-0 over Rovenolt. Bonito defeated Nauman 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3, while Sarquis won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 over Hanus.
Chloe Berridge (York, Pa./Dallastown) won 6-2, 6-3 over Hershey at No. 5, before
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Weaver at No. 6.
The win moves the Huskies to 3-5 and 1-0 in the PSAC East, while Millersville falls to 0-13 and 0-1 in the PSAC East.
The Huskies are back at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on Saturday (Mar. 31) to take on West Chester at 2:00 p.m.
