STORYLINE
The Huskies look to battle some tough Atlantic Region competition this weekend featuring games against the Mountain East Conference (MEC) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
This will be the second all-time meeting between Bloomsburg and Wheeling Jesuit. The Cardinals have the lone win in the series.
 
This will be the first all-time meeting between Bloomsburg and Chowan.
 
This will be the third all-time meeting between Bloomsburg and Concord. The Huskies hold the 2-0 series advantage.
 
This will be the 11th all-time meeting between Bloomsburg and West Liberty. The Huskies lead the all-time series 10-0.
 
LAST MEETING
Wheeling Jesuit defeated Bloomsburg 2-1 back during the 2009 season.
 
The Huskies played Concord last on Mar. 14, 2017 and came away with an 8-4 win. BU scored four times in the first, once in the second and three times in the fourth to get the win. Six different Huskies recorded two hits in the win, with one other tallying one hit. Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) and Maggie Hall (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) registered three runs batted in (RBI) each in the game. Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run) took the win in the circle, allowing four runs, two earned on seven hits. She walked three and struck out two in her third win of the season.
 
BU last played West Liberty on Mar. 12, 2017 and won the game 4-2. The Huskies were held scoreless until the fifth inning when they plated all four of their runs. Two-RBI singles from Emily Getz (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) pushed the runs across in the frame. Winkelman and Getz each collected two hits in the game, while five others each recorded one hit. Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) got the win in the circle allowing two unearned runs on two hits. She issued one free pass and fired nine strikeouts in the win.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies defeated Fairmont State 4-3 on the second day of the Coker Spring Tournament back on Feb. 25. The Huskies scored four runs on nine hits and took advantage of four Fairmont State errors in the second game while committing one themselves. Fairmont State would strike twice in the top of the first, when Andie Baughman drew a one-out walk and was scored on a two-run blast by Beth Cook. Bloomsburg would score twice in each of the second and third innings, while only surrendering Fairmont State's other run in the fifth. The home half second inning began with back-to-back doubles from Getz and Ashli Venokur (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick), before Hall would lash a two-out double to left center to score Venokur from second. The third inning for Bloomsburg started the same way as the second with a leadoff double down the left field line by Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge). Wheeland ripped a single to left to score Mayhew, while advancing to second on the throw home. Wheeland would advance to third on the second out of the inning, a pop up on the right side of the infield by Marissa Shelhamer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia). Venokur would drive home the deciding run with a RBI single to left. Fairmont State would score their run in the fifth on a solo shot from Jenny Stubs. Wheeland went a game-high 3-3 in the second game, with a RBI and a run scored. Venokur collected another multi-hit game, while Hall, Mayhew, Shelhamer and Getz each recorded one hit in the win. Abby Wild (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) (2-0) collected her second win in the circle in 4.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits while issuing four free passes and punching out five. Tara Baney (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) earned the save (2) in 2.2 innings of relief, working a clean appearance while striking out one.
 
Wheeling Jesuit was swept in their double header at Tampa back on Feb. 28. They fell 5-0 in game one and 8-0 in game two.
 
Chowan defeated Salem 8-3 back on Feb. 25. The Hawks scored six runs in the first inning and two in the second. Beth Walker, Brittany Parson and Donya Salman each recorded two hits, while five others contributed one hit apiece. Walker drove in a game-high three runs, while Parson and Miranda Glover each knocked in two. Shannon Buchanan picked up her fourth win of the season in the circle, allowing three unearned runs on three hits in five innings. She also walked three and punched out four.
 
Concord's last action came back on Feb. 27 when they split a doubleheader with Carson-Newman, winning game one 7-2 and dropping the second game 10-6. Game one was scoreless until the fourth inning, before Carson-Newman scored once and Concord responded with six runs in the bottom of the frame. Each team also scored once in the sixth. Abby Beatty and Amber Stokes each had two hits, while four other Mountain Lions had one hit apiece. Kylie Kent and Jenna Witt each drove in two runs, while three others recorded one RBI each. Darby Fitzpatrick recorded her first win of the season in the circle allowing two earned runs on nine hits while striking out one. In game two, Concord led 4-1 after one inning, before extending their lead to 5-1 in the fourth. Carson-Newman would score twice in the fifth and twice in the sixth to tie the game before a scoreless seventh sent the game to the eighth. Carson-Newman scored five runs to Concord's one in the extra frame to get the win. Kent and Rachel Pritchard each recorded two hits in the loss, while Beatty and Stokes each chipped in one hit. Pritchard and Stokes each drove in two runs, while Beatty and Fitzpatrick each brought home one. Pritchard was hung with her second loss of the season, allowing seven runs, six earned on eight hits in just three innings. She also tossed three walks in the appearance. Fitzpatrick was not credited with a decision after allowing three runs, two earned on eight hits through the first five innings. She also walked one in the start.
 
West Liberty last played on Feb. 9 defeating No. 22 Queens and Johnson C. Smith by identical scores of 7-2 before dropping their second game to No. 22 Queens 7-3. In the first game against Queens, The Hilltoppers scored twice in each of the first two innings, before padding the lead with three runs in the sixth. Kat Donzella and Sydney Bennington each tallied two hits in the win, while six others recorded one hit apiece in the win. Bennington, Haley Collett and Kate Meloun each drove in two runs, while Allie Cook also brought home one. MaKenzie Amend collected her first win of the season in the circle allowing two earned runs on four hits while walking three and firing seven strikeouts. In the second win, Johnson C. Smith scored in the top of the first before West Liberty erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning. Johnson C. Smith would score one run in the top of the seventh. Kelsi Johnson collected a game-high three hits in the win, while five others had one hit apiece. Katie Beeman also drove in a game-high four runs in the game. Savanna Sieger got her first win of the season in the circle allowing two earned runs on eight hits while walking two and punching out seven. In the loss to Queens, the Hilltoppers scored once in the first, once in the third and once in the fifth while Queens scored three in the first, three in the third and two in the sixth. Three Hilltoppers each knocked two hits in the loss, while another three each tallied one hit. Bennington and Johnson collected the two RBI in the game for West Liberty. Megan Bosley took her first loss of the season allowing five runs, two earned in two innings while issuing two free passes and striking out one. Taylor Wright and Amend also made relief appearances in the loss.
 
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
As a team, the Huskies are hitting .302 which is the sixth-highest clip in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The Huskies are one of six teams in the league to own a team batting average of over .300. The Huskies also own the third-highest slugging percentage (.443) in the league and the fifth-highest on-base percentage (OBP) in the league with a mark of .361. Venokur holds the highest batting average on the team with a mark of .700 (7-10) in three games. Five other Huskies are hitting at least .300 on the season. Wheeland owns the highest slugging percentage on the team through four games with a clip of 1.111 with six total hits and one double and one home run. Venokur's OBP matches her batting average at .700 to lead the team. Venokur's batting average and OBP are both second in the conference individually. Wheeland's slugging percentage is third in the league. The Huskies have a team earned run average (ERA) of 5.58, with a batting average against of .286 which is eighth in the PSAC. Baney leads the team with a spotless ERA in the circle through 5.2 innings in which she has not allowed a hit and recorded two saves. She has also struck out two in that span. In three appearances, Wild owns a 2-0 record with a 5.11 ERA in 12.1 innings. She has walked nine and punched out 12 so far in that span. The Huskies also have the fifth-highest team fielding percentage in the PSAC with a mark of .965.
 
SCOUTING WHEELING JESUIT
The Cardinals are hitting just .187 as a team, with a .227 slugging percentage and a .259 OBP. Cassie Holstein leads the Cardinals with a .313 batting average, going 10-32 so far on the season. Among everyday players, her .438 slugging percentage and her .421 OBP both also lead the team. Wheeling Jesuit owns a 3.16 team ERA (fifth), over 68.2 innings which is fourth in the conference. Mallory Chapman owns a team-best 1.65 ERA with a 2-4 record through seven appearances, including six starts. Wheeling Jesuit also owns a .952 fielding percentage, which is fourth in the Mountain East Conference (MEC).
 
SCOUTING CHOWAN
The Hawks are tied for the best batting average in the league with a clip of .281. Lindsey Stigler leads the Hawks with a .385 average, that is fourth individually in the CIAA. Walker (11) and Parson (nine) are first and tied for second respectively in the conference for RBI, while Parson is tied for second in the CIAA in home runs with two. Salman and Mackenzie Taggart are also tied for second in the conference in stolen bases with four. Chowan's 3.78 team ERA is fifth in the conference but is best among teams in the CIAA already in action. EmaRae Flores has a team-low 3.11 ERA in three appearances and nine innings. Shelby Buchanan has the most wins on the team with four, and also has a staff-high six complete games.  Chowan's .949 fielding percentage is also second in the league.
 
SCOUTING CONCORD
The Mountain Lions have a team batting average of .197, are slugging .361 and have a .287 OBP. Jenna Witt's .474 batting average leads the team, while Beatty (.316) is the only other player with a mark above .300. Witt is also the team's slugging percentage leader with a mark of 1.105, while her .500 OBP is also the highest on the team. Concord's team ERA is 3.41, while opponents hit .318 against them. Fitzpatrick owns a 2.33 ERA in four starts with a 1-2 record along with three complete games. In 24 innings, she has allowed 12 runs, eight earned on 28 hits while issuing four walks and striking out three. Concord's .974 fielding percentage leads the MEC.
 
SCOUTING WEST LIBERTY
The Hilltoppers own a .333 batting average as a team, along with a .494 slugging percentage and a .393 OBP. Cook is the team's offensive leader with a .667 average through three games, while Johnson is also hitting .545 on the season. The two are among three others with averages of at least .500, while five others are hitting at least .300 so far on the season. Bennington is the team's leader in slugging percentage with a mark of 1.111, while Cook (.750) and Charley Troggio (.667) are the top two on the team in OBP. In the circle, West Liberty owns a 3.15 ERA and a .263 batting average against. Wright has a spotless ERA through one appearance of 2.1 innings, while Sieger owns a respectable 2.57 mark through one start where she went the distance. As a team, West Liberty's fielding percentage sits at .955.
 
UP NEXT
The Huskies will travel to Clermont, Fla. for the Florida PFX Tournament over Spring Break. They will play Southern New Hampshire (9:00 a.m.) and Rollins (11:30 a.m.) on Tuesday (Mar. 13), and Post (9:00 a.m.) and Slippery Rock (11:30 a.m.) on Wednesday (Mar. 14). After a day off on Thursday, they will battle Wayne State (9:00 a.m.) and Sioux Falls (11:30 a.m.) on Friday (Mar. 16) before finishing the trip with games against Northwood (9:00 a.m.) and Purdue University-Northwest (11:30 a.m.) on Saturday (Mar. 17).
