BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team earned its third win in a row and its second of the season over a nationally-ranked Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) squad on Wednesday (Apr. 11), defeating No. 23 Lock Haven 14-11 at Steph Pettit Stadium.
Lock Haven would score the first three goals to take a 3-0 lead less than seven minutes in, with the first two markers coming from Braxtin Regginger at 27:49 and 24:41. Lock Haven's third goal came at 23:06 off the stick of Katie Costanza from Haley Kilian. Bloomsburg would get on the board just under eight minutes in when
Megan Smith (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Township) scored her ninth of the season assisted by
Lindsey Coyle (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), before Lock Haven would score two more goals before the 10-minute mark of the opening half. Ashley Gochenaur (21:48) and Karli Gilbert (20:14) scored unassisted to put the Bald Eagles up 5-1 a third of the way through the first half. Bloomsburg would score the final five goals of the first half in a 17-minute run.
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) scored her 19
thof the season from
Kirsten Wozniak (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) with 19:16 to play in the half, before
Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored her 25
thof the season unassisted with 17:24 left in the half. As the clock ticked down into the final 10 minutes of the half, it was Rusen again this time off an assist by
Megan Smith (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Township). Kelleher would score the final goal of the half unassisted with 2:41 left in the period to give the Huskies a 6-5 lead at the break.
Lock Haven would open the second half with a run of their own, scoring the first three goals of the frame over the first 15 minutes. Reddinger scored a woman-up goal unassisted 2:45 into the second half to tie the game at six, before Dana Laulis scored from Kilian at 21:19 and Costanza scored from Laulis at 15:32 to put the Bald Eagles up 8-6. Closing in on the halfway point of the second, Calyn Gormley found the back of the net with her 25
thof the season from Kelleher before Loren Lebrizzi found the back of the net for Lock Haven 44 seconds later. Bloomsburg would score the next two goals 1:10 apart to tie the game at nine, before taking a 10-9 lead just seven seconds later. Smith (12:47) and Kelleher (11:37) would score unassisted before
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) would score from Gormley with 11:29 left to put BU up 10-9. Lock Haven countered less than a minute later with Alex O'Herrick scoring to tie the game at 10 heading to the final 10 minutes. Reddinger would score to give Lock Haven an 11-10 lead with 8:37 to play, and that was the last goal the Bald Eagles would get in the game. The Huskies scored four goals in the final eight minutes and change to get the win over the No. 23 Bald Eagles. Kelleher scored on a free position shot with 8:25 to play, sending the game to the final five minutes tied at 11. Jaskuta scored the game-winner on a rocket to the top shelf with 3:23 to play, before
Erin Boulger (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area)'s seventh of the season (2:32) and Kelleher's fifth of the game (2:08) polished off the win for the Huskies.
Bloomsburg out-shot Lock Haven 34-27 in the win, including 31-26 in shots on goal. Kelleher led all scorers with a game-high five goals, while three other Huskies each netted two goals and another three players each contributed one goal. Six different Huskies tallied assists on the afternoon. Bloomsburg won the battle for ground balls 31-26, with
Delaney Schappert (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) collecting a game-high seven.
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) picked up five in the win, while Gormley registered three, five other Huskies scooped up two each and another six each grabbing one. Bloomsburg caused 17 of Lock Haven's 23 turnovers, led by a game-high five from
Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape).
Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and Smith each caused two turnovers in the game, while eight others each forced one turnover in the win. Bloomsburg edged Lock Haven in draw controls 16-11, with Dempsey's six being a game-high. Gormley grabbed five, while Boulger collected four and
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) also recorded one. DiPasquale (9-3) made nine saves in the win.
The win moves the Huskies to 9-3 and 5-2 in the PSAC, while No. 23 Lock Haven is now 8-4 and 4-3 in the conference.
The Huskies hit the road for another conference matinee at Slippery Rock on Saturday (Apr. 14). Opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
