BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team fell at Slippery Rock 18-10 on Saturday (Apr. 14) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) competition, ending their three-game winning streak.
The Rock came out firing in the first half scoring the first three goals, beginning with Bre Vodde finding the back of the net just 12 seconds in from ShyAnne Toomer. She would do so unassisted 21 seconds later to put the home team up 2-0, before Toomer scored from Erin Brown less than three minutes in the make it 3-0 in favor of SRU.

Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) less than nine minutes in, before
Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) notched her 26
thof the year from Coyle less than 11 minutes in to make it 3-2. Toomer scored again from Brown with 16:45 to play in the first half, before
Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored her 27
thof the season unassisted to get the Huskies back within one with 13 minutes to play in the first half. The Rock would score the next two goals just 1:03 apart coming unassisted from Tia Torchia (10:19) and Jasey Sanders (9:16) to put them up 6-3, before Rusen would complete the hat trick scoring the next two goals for BU. Her second and third markers of the game came unassisted (8:38) and assisted by
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) (6:15) to make it a 6-5 game going down into the final five minutes of the first half. Slippery Rock's final goal of the first half would come with three minutes left when Jordan Grey scored from Danie Porath to make it 7-5, but the Huskies would score twice in the final 2:45 to send the game to the half tied at seven. Bergman would score her 12
thof the season from Rusen with 2:43 to play in the half, before Rusen would strike assisted by
Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West) with just 34 seconds left for the final goal of the first half.
The Rock scored the first two goals of the second half just 26 seconds apart, with the first coming from Toomer unassisted (28:29) and the second off the stick of Tori Penders unassisted (28:03). Bloomsburg would score the next two goals to tie the game at nine just under six minutes to play in the half, but that would be the final Huskies goal until the final minutes of the game.
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) scored her 24th of the season unassisted less than four minutes in, before Rusen scored unassisted at 24:19 to tie the game at nine. The Rock would go on a scoring run over an 18-minute span scoring the next nine goals to take an 18-9 lead. The first three goals of the run came in 1:02. With 3:11 to play in the game, Bergman netted her second of the game assisted by Turner for the final goal of the game for either team.
Bloomsburg registered 26 shots in the contest, including 24 on goal. Rusen led all scorers with five goals, while Bergman scored twice and Coyle, Gormley and Kelleher each scored once. Turner tallied two assists in the game, while four others helped on one BU goal on the afternoon. Slippery Rock edged Bloomsburg in ground balls 33-31, with BU led by seven from
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus).
Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) collected four, while
Tiffany Diachynsky (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) and
Delaney Schappert (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) each picked up three. Five other Huskies scooped up two ground balls apiece in the loss, while another four each grabbed one. Bloomsburg caused 18 of Slippery Rock's 26 turnovers, led by four from Diachynsky. Three Huskies each caused three turnovers apiece, while another five each forced one. Bloomsburg won 11 draw controls on the afternoon, with
Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and Bergman each winning a team-high four. Gormley,
Megan Smith (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Township) and
Danielle Ward (Albrightsville, Pa./Vernon Township) each recorded one in the game. DiPasquale (9-4) took the loss between the pipes, making 14 saves.
The Huskies see their record move to 9-4 and 5-3 in conference, while Slippery Rock moves to 10-3 and 6-3 in the league.
The Huskies return to action on Tuesday (Apr. 17) when they travel to No. 11 West Chester for an important PSAC showdown. Opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m.
