BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University softball team split their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central division doubleheader with Indiana (Pa.) at Jan M. Hutchinson Field on Friday (Apr. 13), dropping game one 11-9 and winning game two in walk-off fashion 4-3.

The Huskies began the scoring in game one in the bottom of the first with a RBI single to center from Marissa Shelhamer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) that scored Maggie Hall (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown). IUP would take a 4-1 lead with four runs in the top of the second, with the first run coming on a Kassie Kesneck double to left center that scored Lauren Goetz. Alaina Montgomery followed it up with a single to right center that scored Bryanna Lonick, before a Kaitlyn Beers double scored both Kesneck and Montgomery. The Huskies got two runs back in the bottom of the second beginning with Hall reaching on a fielder's choice that scored Bridget Casey (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge). Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) would later single to left center to score Tara Baney (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) to get the Huskies back within 4-3. Bloomsburg would tie the game at four on a RBI single to right by Baney that scored Emily Getz (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown). IUP re-gained the lead in the top of the fourth with three runs in the frame. Megan Little would single up the middle with two runners on and advance to second on the throw home. Wall scored on the hit, while Amanda Parrish advanced to third and then scored when the ball deflected away off Briannah Dobson (York, Pa./Central York). Goetz would drive in another run in the frame to score eventual winning pitcher Brooklyn Kotula on a groundout to put IUP up 7-4. Bloomsburg got one run back in the fourth on a RBI double from Shelhamer that scored Lindsay Nemeth (Drums, Pa./Marian Catholic) to get back within 7-5, before IUP would plate two more runs in the top of the sixth. Both runs came on Beers's second double of the game, as Montgomery and Lonick scored on the play. Bloomsburg would tie the game at nine with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, with the first coming on a RBI single to left center from Getz that scored Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge). A pinch-hit single by Kelsey Impink (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) scored the next run for BU scoring Shelhamer, before Nicolette Ray (Abington, Pa./Abington) singled up the middle with two outs to bring on Getz and Impink and tie the game at nine. IUP would strike twice in the top of the seventh to secure the win, beginning with a single to third base from Kesneck that scored Olivia Gregorich before Montgomery reached on an error in the infield that scored Alaina Laverick unearned.

The Huskies scored nine runs on 13 hits while committing three errors in the game one loss. Shelhamer went 4-5 to lead the offense in game one, while three other Huskies posted two hits apiece and another three recorded one hit each. Shelhamer and Ray each drove in two runs, while five others brought home one run each. Getz scored twice in the win, while seven others crossed the plate once in the win. Alyssa Davies (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) got the start in the circle, allowing four runs on three hits in just 1.1 innings while also walking four and striking out two. Tara Baney (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) tossed 2.1 innings of relief after Davies, allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout. Ray also came on for 3.1 innings of relief in which she allowed four runs, three earned on three hits with five walks and one strikeout. Ray (0-1) was tabbed with her first loss of the season.

The Crimson Hawks would get the scoring started in game two with one run in the top of the first, coming on a single to center from Beers that advanced Montgomery to third. The throw in from center deflected off of the runner Montgomery, allowing her to score and allowing Beers to advance to second. The Huskies took a 2-1 lead on Wheeland's seventh long ball of the season that also scored Mayhew, before increasing their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third on a Hall RBI double down the left field line that scored Erin Smith (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area). The lead carried into the top of the sixth, before IUP would plate two runs to tie the game at three. Both runs came on a double to left from Parrish that scored Beers and Montgomery. The game went to the bottom of the seventh tied, which began with a one-out single to left field by Hall. Mayhew would single up the middle to move Hall to second, setting the stage for Wheeland with just one out. Wheeland ripped a 3-2 pitch into the left center gap to score Hall and get the Huskies the walk-off win.

Four different Huskies tallied two hits apiece in the win, while another three recorded one hit apiece. Wheeland drove in a game-high three runs along with one RBI from Hall, while four different Huskies scored in the win. Baney (6-5) got the win in 1.1 of hitless and scoreless relief after freshman Balee Leeser (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) made her first career start. The freshman battled for 5.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits.

The split moves the Huskies to 12-15 and 4-6 in the PSAC Central, while IUP moves to 8-10 and 3-4 in the division with the split.

The Huskies are back in action tomorrow (Saturday, Apr. 14) when they travel to Mansfield for another PSAC Central division doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
