BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team moved their winning streak right along to seven with a 6-3 non-conference over visiting Jefferson on Friday (Apr. 13).
The Huskies won two out of three doubles matches before taking four out of six singles matches for the win.
Cassidy Calimer (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Absegami) and
Vitoria Nery (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Educandário Santa Maria Goretti) defeated Marta Yevstakhevych and Lauren Candia 8-6, while
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) and
Catherine Garrity (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) fell at No. 2 doubles 8-6.
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) and Sienna Cerra won at No. 3 doubles over Usha Baublitz and Katelyn High 8-5 to get the second doubles win for BU.
Nery defeated Yevstakhevych in a thrilling 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 win at No. 1 singles, while Calimer won over Candia 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 2 singles. Bonito beat Baublitz in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 before Sarquis fell at No. 4 6-2, 6-2.
Chloe Berridge (York, Pa./Dallastown) dropped her No. 5 singles match 6-3, 6-3 before
Cassie Wentz (Windber, Pa./Winber Area) closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6.
The seventh straight win moves Bloomsburg to 8-5 while Jefferson is now 10-7 following the loss.
The Huskies are back in action tomorrow morning (Saturday (Apr. 14) when they take on Virginia State at home. First serve is set for 9:00 a.m.
